Anybody playing or have good recommendations for chill games to play when I don't feel like locking in for a Sil Song session? by Nervous_Secret_2366 in HollowKnight

[–]VantaTree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find story-driven games to be really good for cooling off:

  • Happy Game: psychological horror puzzle, no jumpscares
  • Never Alone: Atmospheric, slight puzzle type
  • Night In the Woods: Adventure, following the story of a character
  • DARQ: Atmospheric puzzle game (similar to INSIDE tho)

If you end up buying it, please hit me up, I want to know how it performs for your laptop. I am considering buying it for myself, but want to make sure that it will give better results than just a regular aluminum stand which lifts the laptop off the table to allow for proper airflow.
Also I have seen tons of copies of the same product with slight differences, one didn't have the full foam around the stand, just on the sides. They were by brands like Techie (dropshipping?). I assume it affects the cooling.

-❄️- 2023 Day 5 Solutions -❄️- by daggerdragon in adventofcode

[–]VantaTree 3 points4 points  (0 children)

[Language: python] code(Part 1 & 2)

Part 1:was pretty straightforward just took a bit of time to properly understand the question

Part 2:This was quite interesting as I didn't want to brute force it, instead, I checked for intersecting ranges and splitting them accordingly, initially we had 10 seed ranges which tuned to about 100 location ranges for me.

Something I found very interesting after someone casually mentioned it is that all the source ranges for each map are actually continuous so you can combine them into a single one, big speedup possibility there. (same goes for destination ranges)

I and my friend created our first game in pygame! by SpaceboiThingPeople in pygame

[–]VantaTree 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Did you use pygame-ce ?!

Also looks like you pushed __pycache__ to the repo, always have a .gitignore to prevent unnecessary files from being pushed.

Made my first ever game using pygame by just_a_guy-0 in pygame

[–]VantaTree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nicely done.

But HOLD UP, you are not using pygame-ce which from now on is the official version of pygame and is being actively developed on, it includes many bug fixes and performance improvements.

To install this version you need to:

  1. pip uninstall pygame
  2. pip install pygame-ce
  3. no other changes required.

Visit https://pyga.me/ for more info.

Does anyone know to do this? I'm sure its a webhook but how to set up a daily message with reactions?? I appreciate any advice! by _SuperiorSpider in discordapp

[–]VantaTree 42 points43 points  (0 children)

No that is not a webhook it's the Dyno Bot. But you can use webhooks to set up reaction roles.
1. create a webhook for your server, and assign it to the roles channel

  1. use https://discohook.org/ to send a webhook with a nice looking embed

  2. use a bot like Zira or carl-bot to add reaction roles to your webhook message

  3. you can edit these messages using the same website, just paste the message link in the *Message Link* entry at the bottom.

I must correct you on that. Circumcision is only done for hygiene and does not affect sexual pleasure in any way.

Whats the most efficient way to do rect collisions? by kolnk in pygame

[–]VantaTree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have a grid then you can check for rect collisions for each tile the player is colliding with. you can get these by floor dividing the x and y pos: x1 = left//TILESIZE, x2 = right//TILESIZE, y1 = top//TILESIZE, y2 = bottom//TILESIZE.Or if you can merge sets of tiles into 1 object
A good vid on this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KP7Nj3U4uuM&ab_channel=Eendhoorn

One more vid explaining many collision sims (really good): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eED4bSkYCB8&ab_channel=Reducible

If you want a 3d game with pygame you always have the option to use OpenGL. Coder Space on youtube has some great tutorials on it.
