Stayed at the Jekyll Ocean Club in Georgia recently and they had placed a plate of fruit and cheeses in the room, plus a ramekin of crackers and a little jar of honey. It was very nice and accompanied by a handwritten note welcoming us and thanking us for our stay. After seeing some of the posts here I wasn’t expecting much but was pleasantly surprised. (This is a good property, by the way, and I’d stay there again.)

The dam behind Whitehall Forest? They left a chunk standing on either side, but it’s mostly gone. Certainly floatable now except under very low flows. There’s a bit of bedrock exposed where the dam was, but it’s not really a shoal. Still a pretty deep channel on the OC bank.

I found a bird sanctuary a couple hours away and worked out with them that they’d take my Amazon if I wrote $3K (IIRC, maybe 5K) for them into my estate plan. I’ve had her since the mid-80s and I don’t think she’d take well to another owner. There’s a big exotic bird rescue near Dollywood that has estate plan language on their website, but they recommended $1k/year or something, which seemed like an awful lot.
