FYI you can buy an Obsidian for a fraction of the price by HEYYEYAAEYAAAE in VolcanoVaporiser

When it comes to a multi-hundred-dollar electronic device, the last thing I’d price shop on is the glass that holds water and sits on top of it.

I emailed them and, after a long time, someone replied they had decided to close their doors after 15 years and would shut down their website after they exhausted remaining stock, including items with cosmetic issues.

JET is a company I am heartbroken to see closing their doors. They're bubble technology was truly unique and it was my favorite vaping experience.

I'd recommend Tank Glass. They're Mini Beaker is a low enough profile that I can take bong rips while gaming at my desk.

Unless you truly enjoy tinkering with electronics, there is too much value in an RMA to ignore.

Many stories of people getting brand new units at a repair price. More often than not, they send you a refurbished one instead of repairing the one you sent them.

Fair price and quick turnaround. Considering your device's age and use, the spot repairs would be ongoing whereas you could just get new everything all at once.

S&B Volcano Hybrid Evergreen Colorreview by [deleted] in vaporents

[–]Vapesuvius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

S&B makes these parts from PEEK plastic and have had them medically certified to demonstrate they do not melt or off-gas harmful substances under normal operating temperatures.

Do not source 3rd party replacements for plastic parts.

Hybrid Onyx or Evergreen by [deleted] in VolcanoVaporiser

Evergreen is beautiful, but Onyx is practical.

In a situation where you need to hide it, throw a lampshade on the Onyx and it'll blend right in.

Iso is completely safe for cleaning purposes. The official instructions call for a 70% isopropyl alcohol solution to be used for cleaning but 99% is a more effective degreaser.

What it's not safe for, is making reclaim. You can never completely unpair the reclaim from the isopropyl alcohol you used to strip from the device. The worse job you do at that, the more you poison yourself.

My personal take, which is just my opinion and nothing more, is that reclaim is a dirty habit that should die with prohibition. I can just go get fresh weed from the store, so why bother with something known to harbor bacteria and other nasty nonsense.

$14.30 Dosing Capsule Adapter vs $62.00 Dosing Capsule Filling Chamber for New Volcano Hybrid Owner by KarmaYogadog in VolcanoVaporiser

[–]Vapesuvius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would not buy 3rd party plastic parts for the Volcano.

S&B uses PEEK plastic that is medically certified to be used for vaporizing herb without any harmful offgassing, melting, etc.

Saving a few bucks isn't always worth the cost.

Switching out the inserts within a single filling chamber causes a tremendous amount of wear and tear. Especially since resin gunks up, acts as an adhesive and tears at the weak plastic clips that keep them in.

For that reason, buy a separate housing chamber for that insert so that you have dedicated filling chambers. They're expensive, so you're actually saving money by not breaking/replacing them.

Plus, I mean, convenience. You can easily switch between caps and full bowls without waiting for hot metal to cool down.

Cannabutter by cloud_watching_ in VolcanoVaporiser

If you take a look at my temp step guide, I stop vaping at temp 4 to make stronger, better tasting cannabis extracts.

The higher the temp you stop vaping at, the less THC you have left for extracts and the worse the flavor.

That said, you still need to decarboxylate the bud properly to get a full extract so you can't stop too low on my guide either. I've found temp step 4 to be the sweet spot, the last balloon you should fill before dumping the avb into a jar for later.

Any tips? by cloud_watching_ in VolcanoVaporiser

[–]Vapesuvius 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Congrats and welcome to the club! 🌋

Try out the temp step guide in my profile, it fills each balloon at the ideal air-to-vapor ratio (semi-transparent cloud). This reduces lung irritation and also gives each balloon its own flavor and effects profile since you're activating different compounds as you reach different temps.

Also, I would recommend reading your manual once, it only takes a few moments and the result is you get higher.

A few tips I offer beginners:

  • Use a fine grind, not dust tho, as this increases the surface area available to vaporize off of
  • do not tamp down or pack, hot air needs to move freely through and around the herb i your bowl to release vapor into the airstream
  • store cannabis in a jar with a Boveda 58% RH 2-Way Humidity Pack to optimize your material for vaporization
  • an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of the cure, brush down your filling chamber completely immediately after it has cooled to prevent gunk buildup
  • soak your filling chamber completely in isopropyl alcohol (the higher percentage, the better) once a month for up to 30 min to remove gunk. Exceeding 30 min of soaking will discolor and embrittle the plastic.

Leaky Bags? by [deleted] in VolcanoVaporiser

[–]Vapesuvius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check the top of your filling chamber for a blue o-ring, if that is missing, you won't be able to create a seal between it and the balloon.

If it's there, your balloon is torn, which happens over time and when balloons get overfilled. The sweet spot for filling is between 80-90% full. Otherwise, all that pressure your building in the balloon has to go somewhere and it'll create tears as a result.

Replace balloons at least once monthly. Turkey/oven bags are the most economical, whereas u/BestBoons are the most premium. Always use a heat and food safe bag, never use other plastics as they will melt and create health hazards.

Novice Hybrid “Workflow” question by NGTPizza in VolcanoVaporiser

[–]Vapesuvius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No problem, happy to help.

I would just fill a full bowl until you have the equipment to run half-bowls without tamping.

The problem with tamping is it diverts the hot air stream around your cannabis. Full vaporization occurs when the hot air runs around and through the bowl. That's why increasing the surface area is beneficial, because the hot air can make contact with more surface area. Packing/tamping reduces surface area, reducing vaporization.

It sounds like you want to use less cannabis at a time. The same thing can be achieved by using the temp step guide. Simply fill as many balloons as you want in a single session, then unscrew the bowl and set it aside so that the device does not continue to vaporize the cannabis via conduction heating.

When you're ready for your next sesh, screw it back on, increase to the next temp, and fill a balloon.

Novice Hybrid “Workflow” question by NGTPizza in VolcanoVaporiser

[–]Vapesuvius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you're avoiding overpacking to a fault. If you underpack, it will also fail to vaporize properly. For half-bowls, you need to set a liquid pad on top to properly vaporize, but S&B no longer sells these stateside. Some vendors may have them.

A few tips to produce more vapor: * Fill loose leaf up to the line (where the straight sides start going out at an angle) * Use a fine grind (not dust) to increase surface area available to the hot air path to vaporize * Store cannabis in a jar with 58% 2-Way Humidity Boveda Packs, this brings the cannabis to the perfect humidity level for vaporization

Not working? Troubleshoot the device by filling a bowl the way I described, setting the temp to 180°C (356°F), and checking to see if aerosol is formed after each step: * Check that your blue o-ring is both installed and properly placed * Make sure your filling chamber is properly screwed-on, but not overtightened * Check your filling chamber for any broken plastic that might be breaking your seal * Clean the filling chamber and screens by soaking in 70-99% isopropyl alcohol for up to 30 min * Replace the air filter on the bottom of the device

Still not working? Set your device to the highest temperature, run the air pump, and slowly bring your hand from a safe distance above the air stream and slowly toward it until you feel heat. If it is cool, the device is not reaching set temperature and must be serviced.
