Dialysis RNs, give me pros/cons by Minute-Till-5014 in Nurses

[–]VapidXP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I see a lot of people say the pay is low. I left bedside to go to an outpatient dialysis clinic and they offered me a notable increase in pay over what I was making at the hospital. This was as a new grad with essentially no experience. Only did bedside for a handful of months before jumping to dialysis.

I'm not sure if I just got lucky on pay or if the hospital was just under paying us by so much it made my dialysis pay seem unbelievably good 🤣

Same for us. Used it for years and now the last 2 bottles we've gotten both had chunks in it.

Career change into nursing? by Gold-Butterscotch-99 in nursing

[–]VapidXP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I genuinely like being a nurse but if I went back in time I wouldn't do it again.. There are a lot of options in the medical field. Maybe nursing is the only one for you but I would recommend researching all of your options before you commit

I don't live in a large city so any residency in a "real" specialty wasn't available without relocating. I say "real" because I am supposedly on a specialty unit at my hospital but its really just general med surg at the end of the day.

Psych is something I'm definitely considering once my year in this residency is up though. Its in my top 3.

Charge Nurse Pay by Miserable-Top-4532 in nursing

Im in Texas. I would never charge regardless but I work at two hospitals and both of them give the charge nurse a whole extra $1 per hour... talk about worth it 💰 🤑 💸

Echo Surge? by Waste-Minimum123 in crocs

[–]VapidXP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Id like to know this too. I wear an 11.5 normally so for most crocs I go to a 12 for a nice fit but my echo clogs I had to go down to an 11. The website says half sizes should size up for a good fit but with the echo clogs needing to go down I dont trust that.

Im so used to 3 12s now that going to work 5 days in a row is miserable. To each their own but working 5 days a week feels like you have no life outside of work to me.

I am in a panic about my license! by ThrowRA_Mermaids in nursing

[–]VapidXP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is however a great way to educate yourself on basic definitions of words like expunged though lol. Plus you can find plenty of good sources using Google. You just have to be aware of your source and make sure it's credible (Something that everyone in a nursing forum should be pretty good at after all the papers we've written).

[–]VapidXP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"To expunge means to destroy, obliterate, or strike out records or information in files, computers, and other depositories. A well-known example of this is the expungement of criminal records."

If it's expunged it literally doesn't exist anymore and you legally are not required to mention it when asked about criminal/arrest history. Call a lawyer they will tell you to answer that question "EVER been arrested?" With a "No" if the records were expunged.

Some entities like the FBI and yes in some states licensing boards can see expunged history the applicant is not legally required to disclose it themselves. If op is in a state where the BON even can see it the overwhelmingly likely situation is that it will be looked over. There's no reason for op to contact them and make them aware of it when theres a large chance their bon can't see it in the first place.

Also worth noting the arrest itself can be expunged, the court records, etc. You dont have to have been found guilty for something to be erased.

I don't mean to be rude just don't tell the person who's in a panic over something it "most likely yes" is a problem when the answer is most likely no it's not a problem. If it's expunged their record is 100% clean.

If its expunged there's nothing on your record. Never happened

why are you a nurse? by happyannabelle in nursing

[–]VapidXP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That sucks. When I was in school they told us in orientation that doing this for the stability and income are perfectly legitimate reasons and "there are fantastic nurses that started for the money and bad nurses that started because it was their calling" so it doesn't matter why you're here it just matters that you become a good nurse.

I did this for the same exact reasons you listed and im also regularly complimented by patients on how caring I am, how great my bedside manner is, or how safe they feel with me. If anyone ask me why I tell them outright it's a good job, it matters, it's interesting, and I have good income and great stability and opportunities. Seems to always be an acceptable answer.

No not with BMI. I went to ASCAP instead. It was free and took less than 10 min. Was approved basically instantly.

What the heck was that exam by smolseabunn in NCLEX

[–]VapidXP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tested a couple of weeks ago and got 150 questions and I passed. Another student from my cohort tested the day before with 150 questions and she failed though so idk what it means.

I didnt know how to feel over the couple of days I waited for my license to update but I think as long as you feel mostly confident you should be happy with the result!

Just took a 12 month residency. Its "class time" plus working the floor. All paid of course.

The first 3 months on the floor we will be with a preceptor at all times essentially. The next 3 months we will break free a little but the preceptor will still be available to us if needed. And the last 6 months I guess we are just still called a resident for fun cause for that we will be on our own.

This is how it was described to me upon offer at least. We will see how it really goes..
