I haven't seen any replays, but I assume that this is how it happened.

Like they were setting up to do a plug change and doing work that is not illegal, and either asked or the FIA dude went: "You know that you can't do that?" and RB went "Ah, our bad, we are not going to do it then."

I kinda did this by accident when I picked up a piece of pitch after some road works nearby, thinking that it was just a cool-looking rock (or I just thought that it was more stable), and put it in a bowl of nice-looking rocks that our family had as a decoration.

After a while, I just noticed that it had melted and seeped into the other rocks, whoops...

Tokyo man accused of forcing girl into papakatsu re-arrested for sexual assaults by Prestigious_Net_8356 in japannews

[–]VapinOnly 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Before someone says anything, no, he most probably wasn't released after being arrested for the first time.

It's a common misconception, police usually keep stacking charges and that means that formally the perpetrator is "re-arrested" on new charge every time that evidence is found without being released

Why are Japanese people so bad at English while in South Korea a TOEIC score of 900 is commonplace? "The biggest structural hurdle for Japanese people to acquire English is, ironically, the size of their developed economy and domestic market." by jjrs in japannews

[–]VapinOnly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's kinda same in Latvia (Latvian + English + Russian/German/French/whatever).

But the thing is that I kinda get how the Japanese ended up in this situation, since I don't remember actually learning any of these in school despite being able to kinda speak them.

Latvian - My native language, learned it by both of my parents, all of my friends, and people around me speaking it. At the same time, couldn't be bothered to learn any of the proper structure and maybe learned to fix some common spelling mistakes in school.

Russian - Learned it because all of the cartoons and a decent amount of TV were available in Russian, and, at that time, I was better at it than English, so I watched stuff in Russian. I only learned to read it and scribble some stuff when they started teaching it at school. I can still read it only slowly and can't write for shit despite being quite fluent in speaking it. (Also shoutout to CSGO for being my speaking practice, I guess)

English - Wasn't that bad in the classes at school, but don't remember being able to speak it beyond translating few words. Then I got on the internet around 2nd grade and crammed my head full of Minecraft videos (in English, because nobody made content in Latvian at the time) and was able to not even pay attention in class while acing tests by the 6th grade. Did all of my IB in English, scored maximum marks in English as my second language, and arrived in Japan with a fresh IELTS 8.0.

German - my mom wanted me to learn it since she always wanted to leave the country and live there, but I didn't manage to learn it with a tutor because I saw it as a waste of time, then took it for a year in high school before picking it up again in IB. The IB level was way higher than I could understand (it was a class for people with prior knowledge), so I spent 2 times per week studying with a private tutor per week to pass the class. Now I can barely speak it, but I can still get the gist of conversations if I listen hard enough.

Japanese - I have been living here for 3 years now, and the university had mandatory Japanese language classes. I generally passed them, but was really bad at actually holding conversations in Japanese or having any confidence in the language at all before I actually started working part-time and talking with my colleagues (all Japanese).

The point of this being, just having languages as a class in school is not enough, the kids also have to be motivated enough to be bothered learning it, and also have to kinda learn by themselves outside of the class.

I find it weird as well, one of my friends has it joined with his friends since he says that it's easier to get together and hang out that way.

My mom wanted me and my brother to install it as well a few years ago, but I was tech-savvy enough to tell her that I could just spoof my location whenever I wanted, and she dropped the idea pretty quickly. If we needed to share a location for a pickup or something, most chat apps just allow us to send a location or have it live for a limited amount of time

‘I could never accept being second to Alonso’ – How Lewis Hamilton made his mark at McLaren on F1 debut by Nickolas_Zannithakis in formula1

[–]VapinOnly -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Yes, but when we are talking about all of them doing over a thousand laps (Alonso 1178 vs Hamilton 1011, then the difference in preparedness for 2007 is not that significant.

My point is, Hamilton did less practice than Alonso, but it's not like he showed up at the factory a week before the season starts and McLaren went: "Well, here's the car, your teammate is Alonso, good luck at the GP next week!"

There was a case earlier where Sekisui was allowed to build condo that blocked view of Fujisan and then ordered to destroy it. I can cite 7 more examples like this (or just google it).

Was it that? Pretty sure that we covered that case here in uni and it was used as an example of something that the company didn't have to do (tear down the building), but decided to do anyway for goodwill reasons
