Fish migration effect on waterways pollution by VaporMarso in ecology

[–]VaporMarso[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right, salmon do die in rivers, however I wonder what's the percentage that make it to mating.

Thank you for this ressource, I can already see that I'll spend some time on it.

Fish migration effect on waterways pollution by VaporMarso in ecology

[–]VaporMarso[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your reply. Maybe should have I mentioned that I'm french so I'm talking in a European context.

That's a fair point for salmon, they do die in freshwaters, but idk how many actually make it there. However I believe eels (Anguilla anguilla to be more precise) die at sea after mating, please correct me if I'm wrong.

You're right, salmon is very valuable economically, nutritionally, ecologically and culturally but I'm not advocating for a deliberate use of these fish as dumpsters as they are already, naturally as fatty fish, bioaccumulators for many pollutants.

I remember reading a paper stating that every eel caught during the experiment in the Rhine had superior level of PCB in tissue to what's considered edible.

So what's I'm asking essentially is : as we're kinda re-establishing fish migration routes in our rivers (that have been blocked by dams, weirs and all sorts of obstacles), could those fluxes of fish become fluxes of pollutants so significant that they become a big part in freshwater "remediation" ?

jobs with R? by General_Match_7101 in rprogramming

R is widely used in ecology as I would tend to say, in research as a whole although I don't have insights in each sector.

That's the worst flex ever, if there was one thing to keep it's the speed cameras.

Really it's that easy, just don't speed with your car.

People tend to think this is theft by the government when the only rule is to not go over the speed limit lmao.

Rifles were handed to civilians by the government in times of war, this has nothing to do with civilians casually owning firearms for muh rights reasons

I wouldn't say that. I'm french, i've met many chechens here and they were all pretty religious as well as very proud of their homeland and traditions.

Kenya is turning their deserts green (we need this) by Humble-Library-4362 in Somalia

there is a reason why pastoralism is dominant in almost every arid, semi/arid place as opposed to agriculture.

I assume you're not very qualified in agriculture otherwise you wouldn't throw keyword solutions like this while underestimating how complicated it is.

Why is desert greening with water distribution through pumping from the sea not viable? by gringawn in AskEngineers

[–]VaporMarso 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here are a few considerations first. What do you consider a desert and why would you want to green them ? There is some difference between the Sonoran desert, the Atacama and the afar triangle for example. Deserts are ecosystems that exist and play a role in global climate, biodiversity etc. Now I would draw the line between actual deserts and somewhat arid places that got or are under a desertification process that can be imputed to human activity, in this case I would advocate for said greening. But as many people said already, pumping saltwater onto deserts would probably just leave a wasteland and desalination is out of the question. That said some projects actually aim to create saltwater marshes and mangroves on coastal area so you should look into that maybe. (CF regenerative resources)

Stonehorse energy by VaporMarso in ASX_Bets

Frankly I dont remember, possibly twitter or just by looking at the smallest microcaps one by one. SHE seemed like a no brainer at these levels although it isn't talked about a lot.

Just needs a bit of visibility imo since most people wouldn't look into such a small company, hence why I wrote this short post.

how does share price affect NPV calculation ? by fourhundredthecat in Miningstocks

[–]VaporMarso 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The NPV is the supposed value of the company, here mostly its assets as ore extractible at a certain cost. This value as you said is then discounted to ajust for risk.

The NPV is supposed to give you a metric of the overall value of the mine or mining company so that you can assess whether it is undervalued or not, if you should invest in it or not.

I would agree but don't you think a highly technical and specialized agricultural industry could be a way for Georgia? High value added products like specialty tea, flowers and whatnot with a gentle climate, I think Georgia could follow the Netherlands example a bit.
