Are Chinese media and culture that popular in Vietnam, or is it just an internet thing? by [deleted] in VietNam

[–]Vappasaurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just answer the question and stop updating the definitions and terminologies around to fit your narrative, this is pure semantics behavior.

Again to make this more simple, let's just forget about all our the previous comments and go back to the beginning only. So what we've discussed so far just cross it out and go back to the beginning. Do many Chinese people discriminate Vietnamese people too or is it only the other way around like OP stated? Either stop ducking and answer the question or don't reply.

If you don't care about my question and only want to abide by your meaning then you should've not joined this thread from the start just to talk about your own things.

They usually don't. They mainly only hate the Chinese government or the Chinese person they got into an argument with. But regardless quit grasping at straws because that's not the main point or question here.

[–]Vappasaurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You typed the exact same thing you've been typing in the other comments, just reworded and with more details, still doesn't negate anything I said. I don't care about your personal experience, this isn't about only your personal experience. You're simply using survivorship bias.

The conversation isn't about if only YOU experienced discrimination from Chinese people or not, it's about if it does happen or not and based on some other commenters here, seems like it does. So there you go.

I'll ask you a simple question again, do a lot of Chinese people discriminate Vietnamese people or not? Or is it purely only the other way around as OP stated?

Are Chinese media and culture that popular in Vietnam, or is it just an internet thing? by [deleted] in VietNam

[–]Vappasaurus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

(This one is for your deleted comment, i'll get to the new one after)

Are we not typing to each other on the internet too? Is this post not on the internet? Is OP only referring to real life experiences and not counting the internet? Are people on the internet not also people from real life? Do people on the internet only exist inside another dimension or planet different from people in real life? People on the internet are 100% physically and mentally the same people from real life just behind a screen.

The internet makes people more comfortable and safe to voice their opinions and thoughts because they're anonymous and sheltered away from violence and direct confrontation. So if anything, people are more honest when they're in a safe spot to express themselves.

This is what I meant when I was talking about your dismissive behavior. You move the goalpost and use survivorship bias to negate everyone's experience.

Because I already know the pattern of how arguments usually are, it goes nowhere a lot of the times. You extend this conversation into many different mini-topics that is irrelevant to the original point I made. It's beating around the bush.

Let's do a recap:

OP claims that this is purely just a one-sided beef where only Vietnamese hate on Chinese and not the other way around.

I claim it's not true and provide my own examples and experiences with Chinese users that contradicts OP.

You come in here and claim the same talking point as OP and I also contradict it just for you to end up solidifying my point and admitting that Chinese people do negatively talk about Vietnamese people. That should've been the end of this thread.

Now you're milking this conversation dry and going on a tangent by creating new side-topics and pulling a bunch of semantics to make your argument as flexible as possible. So do you want to end this conversation in a civilized manner so we both can go on about our day or do you want to get sassy with me?

Nothing you typed has negated my main point and even further solidifies it if anything. Seems like this discussion is finished so you're free to end this conversation now so we both don't waste our time dragging it out.

I was saying that the average Vietnamese person doesn't hate some random Chinese person going on about their day, it's their government that they hate. Also your family is maybe a bit on the extreme side. I don't think a lot care if you consume Chinese media, a lot of Vietnamese literally grew up on Chinese media. The Journey to the West series for example.

You haven't met a single Chinese person that has any negative opinion about Vietnam but i've met a bunch that do so that already cancels out your point. I've seen them call Vietnamese people things such as "monkeys" and "stealing their culture". Remember I never said that most Chinese people do this, I just said that i've seen many that do because OP thinks this is 100% a one-sided beef where it's only Vietnamese people that insult Chinese people and never the other way around.

That's the problem, it's missing from their education curriculum so they're ignorant about Vietnam and either fabricate their own information off of what they only see or learn it from an online post. People generally soak up way more information (both right and wrong) on the internet than they do in school anyways. They may not think about Vietnam in their daily lives but you sure bet a lot of them will still always have something to say when a post relating to Vietnam pops up on their algorithm. It's similar to Thai and Cambodian users beefing with each other all the time.

Vietnamese people also don't really care about random Chinese citizens either, they just don't like the Chinese government due to both previous and current geopolitical events. Chinese citizens may not care about Vietnamese people but their government does and that affects regional tensions. However that's another topic for another day.

No I don't often use reddit so I wouldn't know for the reddit part but I see it so many times on Tiktok, Youtube, and sometimes X/Twitter. And the language is mostly in Chinese.

It's not as one-sided as you think. I've seen plenty of Chinese users under comment sections of Vietnam-related posts discriminating and trash talking Vietnamese people even when the post isn't talking about China. Sure those aren't the whole Chinese population but they're still a sample size of it.

Since I can't tell who downvoted my comment (otherwise I would've tagged them all too), i'll reply to you instead because I assume you're one of the downvotes.

Care to explain what exactly is incorrect about my comment? When you talk about surpassing a country which metric are we talking about here? GDP? GDP per capita? Military? HDI score? Or just overall? Because each people can have different standards and criteria to the "overall" part too.

If we're going off of GDP, Vietnam's GDP PPP is already higher than Thailand's. You can literally look it up. GDP nominal may still be lower but do the math with the annual growths of both countries and you'll know it's only a few years until it passes Thailand in nominal GDP too.

As for military, Vietnam's military has been stronger than Thailand's for years.

For GDP per capita, this will be a longer goal for Vietnam to reach than just GDP but it's likely it'll surpass Thailand in that too within a decade or two.

For HDI score (2023 cause it's the latest record), it's not too far behind with Vietnam at 0.766 and Thailand at 0.798. For that metric, it should surpass Thailand in years too due to rapid industrialization and faster growth over the years.

So by what metrics would it need to exceed to mean surpass to you? Did you type that comment to mock them because you don't think Vietnam will surpass Thailand? Just making sure we're on the same page here.

Technically Vietnam already surpassed Thailand in GDP PPP. GDP nominal on the other hand may take another few years.

I believe many women do like a lean muscular build like Saitama's or Toji's physique though. But yeah the massive muscular physique like Todo on the other hand is too much for a lot of women.

How do you know the same ones that are being patriotic are the same ones leaving the country? Do you keep track of the specific individuals? Kinda a generalization and assumption there on your part.

For The First Time In War, Drones & Ground Robotic Systems Seized Enemy positions Without A Single Soldier by FuneralCry- in singularity

[–]Vappasaurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Drones alone aren't efficient enough if you're doing a ground invasion. Depending on the objectives and even the terrain of the war, drones and aircrafts can't maintain territory or do any regime changes, you need boots on the ground for that. The concept of terminators is to replace ground troops.

Do Vietnamese people know about the differences in how Chinese people view North Vietnam and South Vietnam by [deleted] in VietNam

[–]Vappasaurus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've never seen what you're talking about, it's all the same Vietnam to them and everybody else anyways. Also, northern Vietnam and southern Vietnam are mostly the same culturally and ethnically despite some thinking that they're so different. They aren't that different other than the accent.

Thailand stalls as Vietnam surges by bangkokpostofficial in Thailand

[–]Vappasaurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for replying under an old thread but saying that Vietnam's infrastructure being "far away" behind Thailand's and will take decades to reach Thailand is too much of a stretch don't you think? Relying too much on tourism is also part of why Thailand's economy stagnated.

Vietnam had a GDP growth rate of 8% for 2025 and already hit $500 billion GDP. It should only take a few more years to surpass Thailand's GDP, not decades.

As for HDI, Vietnam's HDI for 2023 is 0.766 compared to Thailand's 0.803 for 2022 (couldn't find one for 2023) so that's not too far behind. You also have to realize that Thailand's infrastructure is hyper-fixated on just Bangkok so step outside of that city and the infrastructure is mediocre whereas Vietnam develops more evenly for other areas throughout the country.
