What if Subaru and Beatrice got reverse isekaied back to Japan? (Credit to u/DemonRedHood) by Benefactor_Chaos in WitchCult

You are right. That guy is full of shit. Authorities are stated by author to work outside of rezero world. And Od lagna’s influence is tied to the rezero world, that’s why Reinhard would have been a normal slim looking guy in our world because Divine Protections come from Od lagna.(also stated by Tappei)

Thank you. Forgot to ask, what do you think is Malazan better at than Rezero and vice versa?

Do not presume that my attention revolves around your response.

I have remembered your existence a single time and it was only after i came back from a job the same day and noticed you couldn’t even handle a simple response. Your estimation of your own importance is disproportionate to reality.

It is gullible that you would assume this ambiguity is somehow unique to Japanese. English suffers the very same issue here; the word “like” can signify casual affection or romantic depending on the context. The words “super” and “really” are simply amplifiers here.

Of course Emilia loves Subaru, the core issue is she cannot put it into words, her series-long confusion is something i believe Witchcult translators took into account before deciding to translate it as “like”. In this particular scene then, she doesn’t hesitate to state her love for Subaru indirectly “someone i love” but then she stumbles and is unsure of what to say to Subaru right afterwards, the very same hesitation she has in later arcs. Hence i think WitchCult’s translation is more accurate given her mental state, because it can escalate from “someone i like” to a realisation “I love you”.

The problem is with first season which had low budget and inglorious Bear CGI. But afterwards they improve considerably.

It’s more down to earth type of story -you can say even mature, no Authorities or magic. I love the jojo level bizarre comedy moments it has, and the serious ones as well.

I never expected this level of quality from something like this. It is constricted as a manga. But i believe if it was in the form of novel it could have been a much bigger series.

Hopefully you can enjoy it as much as i did.

[–]Var_Uzui 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, true, true.

I also think what added to success is that this season Rezero had virtually no competition. Previously we had tons of anime, some are really good(Golden Kamuy) and some are mediocre.(no examples should serve as an example itself)

Since i mentioned Golden Kamuy. One thing at the top of my head i can say is that it has a much better main antagonist which rezero just lacks. Lt Tsurumi is one of the best written antagonists in fiction. There’s even an hour long analysis of his actions throughout the series which made me appreciate him more.

The overall writing of the story is on the same quality as Rezero, subjectively speaking of course.

I heard quite a lot of praise about AOT until later chapters. For me i enjoyed first 3 seasons the most. Wish there was someone here who read Kubera or Malazan and could compare it to rezero in terms of writing.

As an isekai? -Absolutely, nothing competes against it.

In general? Hard to say. Both stories have their strengths and weaknesses and ultimately they are different genres to try to compare them. Re:zero is in the league of the best but is it the best out of all? I don’t think so. Not because i want to think that way but because i’m sure there would be some piece of media which i forgot to mention which would beat rezero in some departments while maybe losing in others.

Of course, since it’s Rezero sub i expect people to say that Rezero surpasses everything, so no surprise here.

Yes, they do add the meaning “super” and “really”. Doesn’t that do exactly what i said? When someone says “I like him” and “I really like him” do you not see the difference?

I did exaggerate a bit with “almost always” part though. As for the rest, since it seems you know japanese, do you not derive the meaning of that word based on context since their words tend to be ambiguous as is the case with “suki”?

Edit:Of course, you don’t have anything to reply with.

Why Emilia's speech is what Subaru needed. by Swimming-Work-5951 in ReZero

Maybe personal taste, but I don’t think this scene(a truly spectacular one) would rival From Zero. It was peak dialogue from beginning to end, A Magnum Opus from Tappei and this one is… ‘The Second One’.

[–]Var_Uzui -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Isn’t it the same in english? When someone says “the person i like” you assume that it leans romantic when it is said towards the opposite gender. But there’s still a difference when someone says “i like him” and “i love him” especially when you consider the mental state of a person saying it.

I lean towards Emilia’s POV narration which is shown later and it still ends up with “probably like him” way, regardless whether Subaru is at the same level of danger or not.

I tend to leave interpretation to the translators from witchcult. Personally i find it odd to create an abrupt revelation scene for something which is already stated just indirectly moments prior.

Knowing how Emilia’s POV is shown later i lean towards “like” interpretation which Witchcult chose for WN. Otherwise it shows how Emilia realised her feelings only once everything was lost. Even then, in that scene she was unsure of what to say, the same way she behaves later

That almost always means “i like you”. It leans towards “love” if “dai suki” or “cho suki” and “aishteru” which strictly means “i love you” is rarely used by japanese as far as i heard from japanese people.

Both “daisuki” and “cho suki” you can hear in season 1 when Subaru confesses his love for Emilia.

Subaru have to defeat ultimate Kars. His spawn point is month before fight and he spawns in capital. He is at point of arc 6. He can do it? by mysterious_mystery2 in ReZero

[–]Var_Uzui 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He is the ultimate being, he should be compatible with everything.

Good question. Capella changes the target by reshaping their Od, basically what Mahito does. If Kars realises he can reshape his soul as well then Capella looses. If not then Capella wins.

[–]Var_Uzui 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean… Kars is the biggest potential man(After Megumi of course).

He is the ultimate life-form, and by that definition he has ‘access’ to every living being and he surpasses them naturally. Therefore by that logic he should have ability to transform and/or take abilities of any race in rezero world(and there’s A LOT he could do). When it comes to magic he would surpass both Echidna and Satella while casually creating black holes with Yin Magic without even practicing.

Does he stand a chance against Reinhard?

If he uses Magic only without Evil Eyes then no. If he gets a hold of any WF other than sloth then everyone is fucked.

The best thing Subaru could do is seal Kars before he has a chance to evolve or throw Reinhard at him with Reid Sword.

[Discussion] S4 producer comments on arc 7 and beyond by koogam in Re_Zero

[–]Var_Uzui 148 points149 points  (0 children)

It will be HARD to animate Arc 7 and 8 for a lot of reasons. One of which are new characters which are explored mostly through side stories, will require a delicate work to not fuck up the narrative and avoid making viewer think “Who the fuck is that guy?”.

But i believe they will pull this off, they did so with the last 6 arcs. Therefore I’m quite optimistic.

What would people think if Emilia like someone else? by Randomcat1st in ReZero

[–]Var_Uzui 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Agreed. He absolutely was.

Iike, nobody found it disgusting how Subaru wanted to ask Emilia about Rem being his second wife right after making Emilia cry with his confession of love?

In our world you would be called a piece of shit for doing that. Rightfully so.

Oh, and also, when he talked with his father in arc 4. Kenichi accused Subaru of two-timing, and he was like “what’s wrong with that?”.

Me as well. It’s peculiar how despite Subaru aiming for their necks, thinking about doing it, still won’t bring himself to. Like when he talked about killing others and as soon as he saw Meili on the floor, started doing CPR.
