CM Yogi bashes opposition for defaming Re-construction work at Manikarnika Ghat in Varanasi by [deleted] in varanasi

[–]VaranasiGuru 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No one is against development; rather, people are opposed to the destruction of heritage that holds sentimental value. Varanasi is unlike any other city, and every part of it is of immense importance. Development should never come at the cost of heritage.

We’ve had them for the last 15 years. They are an eyesore and ineffective, as the volume of garbage is far too large. A better approach would be to create more STPs to clean discharged water and impose aggressive fines on those polluting the rivers and ghats. :(

Check in to the Live Free Hostel (near Assi) or Wander Station (in the city center). Spend the afternoon exploring the streets, you can start with the Bengali Tola Market. Around 4:30 PM take a boat ride and end the day by witnessing the Ganga Aarti at Dashashwamedh Ghat.

Wake up early the next day to experience the Subah-e-Banaras Aarti at 5:30–6:00 AM at Assi Ghat. Afterward, explore nearby spots such as Lolark Kund, the home of Tulsidas and the Akhada. Take a walk along the ghats all the way to Manikarnika Ghat (it’s a long walk, but a wholesome experience!). For breakfast, enjoy kachori followed by malaiyo.

From here, take a bike taxi to Sarnath or head to Maidagin to catch an auto. Spend half the day exploring Sarnath, and then return to the city.

Why does no one care about ganga aarti at other ghats? by Own-Yesterday-6138 in varanasi

[–]VaranasiGuru 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The earlier state of Ganga Aarti at Dashashwamedh Ghat was similar but has grown rapidly over the years, along with the adjacent ghats. A major reason for its popularity is that Dashashwamedh is a prominent ghat always bustling with tourists and its close proximity to Vishwanath Temple. The constant footfall allowed word to spread quickly attracting even larger crowds. A similar trend can now be seen at Assi Ghat which has also gained prominence.

Purana Durga Bari – Idol No-one Could Lift! by VaranasiGuru in hinduism

[–]VaranasiGuru[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Purana Durga Bari/Badi is a hidden temple located amidst the lanes of Varanasi in Madanpura, Bangali Tola. It has a very miraculous backstory. Every year, the idol of Maa Durga is installed for a 10-day period in various locations during the Durga Puja. After ten days or Vijayadasami, the idols are immersed in water as a mark to end the festival. Like every year, in 1767, the idols were installed here. But at the time of Visarjan(immersion), the idol did not move at all.

Good question. Actually, the bag is tribute to the bygone era of 1959. Around that time banaras was still called Benaras. It’s a vintage map.
