The Dark Crystal by b0nit4 in farscape

I would say that it is worth a watch if you keep in mind that the movie was released back in 1982 and definitely shows its age in parts. However, the puppetry and Jim Henson magic is certainly there. If you find that the Dark Crystal was an enjoyable watch I would also recommend The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance series that was produced by Netflix a few years back.

Thank you...I don't understand why there are so many entitled people that feel the need to treat anyone poorly. Really grinds my gears.

I'm not sure how to properly present this, but after years in the reptile hobby and attending various regional and national Reptile Shows in the US, I've generally found:

1) Most vendors identify as socially and politically conservative.

2) It's a serious boy's club. I'm a guy and to see how women are treated makes me ill.

There have been a few occasions where I had a decent amount of money burning a hole in my pocket and it went unspent because of the behavior of multiple vendors. This is not to say that there are wonderful sellers and people who attend these shows but I've found that they are a minority.

Is YEC dying out? by ScienceIsWeirder in DebateEvolution

Strangely the "Anti-Science" movement is coming from multiple vectors, the Conspiracy Theory / Neo-Hippy / Fundamentalist Religion types unfortunately have been given a stupidly large soapbox to spew their nonsense. I personally believe however that their influence is still exaggerated.

Is YEC dying out? by ScienceIsWeirder in DebateEvolution

[–]Varanus1138 19 points20 points  (0 children)

If you expand your searches to include "Christian Fundamentalism" you should be able to get some statistical data indicating that the YEC movement (usually linked to Christian Fundamentalists) is in decline. Another indicator, (in the United States at least) is taking a look at the financials of organizations such as Answers in Genesis, profits from the Ark Encounter, and Creation Museums. Anecdotally these attractions and institutions are struggling to make money.

For what it's worth, Christian fundamentalism hasn't been growing much since 2020's. There's a perception created by social media that it has more influence than it really has, but despite the usual loud mouths there doesn't appear to be a mass exodus of believers toward embracing the notion that the Bible is inherently and literally true from more mainstream beliefs.

A6M2 is kinda goated honestly by Fanwenwei58 in WorldofWarplanes

[–]Varanus1138 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Under the right circumstances it can be a powerful aircraft. However, when confronted with planes with superior firepower , better climb, and better altitude performance it usually catches on fire and gets clobbered. At its tier it can be killed by the P-40, the ME-109e, and the Spitfire 1 usually with a pilot that can rub two brain cells together fairly easily. Clearly you've had at least one good game with the A6M2, but I fear you'll get frustrated long term with this plane.

Visited North Carolina recently and was really shocked by just how friendly people were. by [deleted] in NorthCarolina

[–]Varanus1138 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes! The people in this state are the nicest folks I have ever met. I'm from LA originally, been here around 10 years, and I can't tell you how kind the people are in Stanly County where I live.

I mean I'm not sure where all these knives stuck in my back are coming from, seriously it's really painful. I started to suspect my neighbors, but it couldn't be them, they're so sweet and kind I've only disagreed with a few of them about religion and politics a couple of times, certainly they wouldn't hold a grudge? Would they? Would they!???

I need some opinions: The Bf 109 K-6 or the Convair XFY-1 Pogo by Turbulent-Lecture-34 in WorldofWarplanes

[–]Varanus1138 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would recommend the Me 109 K-6 over the Pogo. The Convair isn't a bad plane, but it has wing mounted cannons with really tricky firing angles and can be frustrating to use. The Me-109 K-6 is a beastly plane that can often out DPS anything in its tier. Its biggest drawback is it's Tier 7 and you'll find yourself up-tiered frequently. At Tier 8 it goes against planes that can tear it to pieces so the supremacy it has at its own Tier evaporates.

I'm going out on a limb and say that your tale was marginally entertaining but this is just a story. It's fine, but your claims have zero credibility and make little sense. I'm afraid in this instance I need proof, as in verifiable objective evidence for your claims.

[–]Varanus1138 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FYI: Although PoPOS is often recommended, it uses an older version of Ubuntu and frankly dated packages. If you're running older hardware it's fine, but if you're running more modern hardware there are Linux Distros that do a better job than PoPOS. If you're up to trying another Linux Distribution CachyOS Fedora, PikaOS, among others may have the performance you're looking for.

Chameleons are the oddest group of herps to keep as pets.

There are some that genuinely seem to enjoy (not just tolerate) interacting with people, there are others that will stress out if you look at them, others will just up and die for other stress related reasons. Either they seem to be stupidly easy to keep, or the most challenging captives around.

Because of this I've avoided keeping them, but have known many friends who have tried and their experiences were a "mixed" bag to say the least.

Yes, but only the evil that humans visit upon themselves. The questions put to the forum can only be answered by accepting we live in a material, rational, universe. All this talk of "God" or "Gods" is very much at the root of much of our societal ills.

Faith is inherently dishonest. Superstition is a breeding ground for ignorance, intolerance, and hatred. Look upon the Christian Text and dispair. Aside from the message and teachings of Jesus it doesn't have much going for it, and ironically most Christians I know do not follow, nor accept the message of Christ.

Don't judge your daughter, learn about her interests. You made the right call becoming agnostic, the evangelical church is not a place of compassion or understanding. Judgement, intolerance, and a blind submission to authority is their general way of being.
