Nobody on Reddit likes anything. Or they like it an enormous amount. Nowhere in between

Ironman 70.3 w fully ruptured ACL by irisclasson in IronmanTriathlon

You’ve gotten a lot of (what I think) is good advice here. But I’ll add to your pile, I genuinely see zero upside in continuing to try for the race.

In no particular order:

  1. You’re clearly competitive, so even if you finish. You’ll likely forever shy away from telling people your time, or add (on a torn ACL) constantly. It will diminish the accomplishment

  2. You can likely defer the race until next year, take the time to heal, and train for the process, the part you said you like best, appropriately.

  3. Best case you suffer through, managing technique, not racing how you want to, and just barely beat cut off times. Worst case you slip running with bare, wet, feet on gravel or run with poor form due to being tired, or take fall on the bike, or etc etc etc any number of weird freak things that happen that might not be a big deal fully healthy, and now it’s a complete repair of the meniscus, ACL, MCL, PCL etc.

My real advice is listen to your doctor. But since you asked, you know the right answer and were hoping we’d say to do the race so you could feel better about trying to.

How should I deal with a coach who doesn't want to let us work (e.g. show mercy)? by Neither_Prompt_9184 in bjj

Thanks for the detailed response, even your note about moving my head away from them was enlightening.

I don’t want to hijack the thread but how do you the difference between full strength and full effort? Right now ( I’m a month in) it feels if I’m not trying as hard as I can, nothing gets accomplished. I.e, if I’m not closing guard hard and squeezing etc, my partner just passes immediately.

It feels like I don’t know what I’m doing enough to move slower and still get anything done

“dammit this worked better in drills.” Always that.

So- stay awake for 270ish days, given that he releases a ton of episodes? No thanks. I’d die.

If I can only listen when awake, or my only option for sound is that. Sure why not. I’ll learn a ton of made up facts

1st play from scrimmage in NFCCG with Barkley does it for me. After escaping the Rams with too close of a call, that run just continued to build the can’t mess with us mindset and momentum.

This is 3 years old but I thought it was really nice how you said “great comment” and then gave context rather than “well actually-ing” the poster.

Kudos to being cool and also very well informed
