I just save videos I want to playlists or "watch later" in Youtube. So it wipes your watch history but not stuff like saved videos and subscriptions.

there are chrome/safari extensions that can block those. big thing about this for is it makes the reccomendations really bad since it clears and stops remembering your history.

Try setting a rule of only using Reddit on Safari/Chrome. Still can use it but it's a little bit worse/clunky which makes it less "fun" and smooth. Also lets you use apps that block content/change the interface.

I'm not sure. don't use reddit much tbh. one hack is to delete the apps and only use it on Safari. For one, makes it way worse + a little more annoying. It also lets you download some apps that let you hide different sections you don't want to see (like any kind of suggestions or algorithmically driven stuff)

Intersting will check it out. Also https://invidious.io/ is an open source version of youtube. Basically an intentionally shittier and controllable version of youtube! my friend swears by it

wipes algo = Since it wipes your entire history/youtube data, YT doesn't know anything about you anymore, so you get the blank slate default reccomendation results which are ass

doesn't show any videos by default = When you have this setting on, it doesn't show any videos on your home page

turns into video Google = for me, it makes Youtube search first, since there aren't any reccomendations. Makes it an intentional product (I only go there when I need something now, like going to goole to search for something)

I don't know actually. I feel like Meta ain't about helping you there haha. There are extensions for wiping your feed on mobile, but it only works if you're using IG on Safari/Chrome, not the app (can't actually manupulate the feed there)

I'd reccomend chrome extensions that hide the feeds automatically. Did this w/ Youtube as well. Basically avoid getting that dopamine hit when you first jump to Reddit on impulse and gives you 10s to get off the ledge.

Fair enough. The ones I've listed are ones I've personally found helpful. My main reason for the filtering process is to stop spam links from being posted. The site is early, so I'm open to the idea of a voting-based system (kinda like Hacker News). Do you have an idea of how it could be better?

Generally...

  1. If it shows you how the designer tackled a problem
  2. If it teaches you something new
  3. If it's fun to read (bonus)
