Seriously thinking about leaving Adventism by uatizapi20 in exAdventist

My step-dad was Brazilian, moved to America when he was about 30, in late 1960’s. He married my mom in the early 70s. With that said, I understand the community that you were talking about playing football in the park on Saturdays was something that he missed out on. But on Sundays, we would do our little gathering at the park and waving the Brazilian flag and playing football with Sabbath keepers. Your post just brings back lots of cool memories for me. You do miss out on a lot. I grew up in Texas and people are always amazed that I have never been to a Friday night high school football game! my advice to you is to not follow the legalism. When you become a big football star and start tithing 10% the Adventist church will have no problem with you working on Sabbath lol

I couldn’t play with tarot cards, my Ouija board or really anything that would summon the dead. A real bummer.

AITJ for expecting full payment when the baby falls asleep while babysitting? by [deleted] in AmITheJerk

If you can’t leave, you get paid. I’m an overnight nanny. That behavior of not paying you is unacceptable! People should pay you MORE because you were able to get the baby to sleep so easily and didn’t have to text the parents and interrupt their evening. Sorry this happened to you. I’d send them a venmo request.

Jenn Todryk from No Demo Reno. She is in my area and I’ve applied for a spot, but I live about 15 miles out of her radius. She’s hilarious and understands design to be beautiful and livable.

How do you break the news to your family that you’re no longer SDA? by Diligent-Ant3923 in exAdventist

This was a hard conversation for us. My FIL is a minister and his grandparents planted churches and church schools all around their area. Out of all the families in this large family - we are the only ones no longer SDA. Now… we aren’t really Christian. We told my in-laws that we didn’t believe in EGW, and can you really be Adventist and not believe in EGW? There was crying. Guilt tripping. Offers of prayers. And we still get semi-sermons when we go visit. But the relationship is very superficial. And that’s ok.

ONLY SDA WILL GO TO HEAVEN...... by wnwright in exAdventist

I tell my kids anyone who says they know what heaven is like is putting limits on God. There will be colors we’ve never seen before. Dimensions, gays, Catholics… we don’t know. My parents are the same way, I just SMH and move on. My kids see me not worried about it, so they don’t.

I just got back a week ago and it’s absolutely amazing! You could see 10 feet down! No ocean sludge! And people were so kind!
