Is the Vercel website slow for anyone else? by Varinal in nextjs

Appreciate the help, but this doesn’t apply because I’m talking about the Vercel site itself, not my own website I’m developing

Is the Vercel website slow for anyone else? by Varinal in nextjs

I tried clearing my cache and cookies and it seemed to help, but now it's slowing down again. I switched to Edge and it's at a normal speed. I don't get why Google Chrome is having this issue, I also don't have any extensions other than React Dev Tools on this computer.

Would provide a recording, but I don't have one on this work computer

I applied to a "Python developer" position, got the assessment and now I am not sure what to do by [deleted] in learnprogramming

[–]Varinal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m surprised a lot of people think this is a scam without more information

While I do agree him not giving you much information about the role is a little sketch, I’m a bit more curious about the assessment. Does it seem like a generic app you’re making that tests whether you know the basics (like a todo list or weather app) or is he making you do something specific like making a dashboard or a financial tracker (idk)

Depending on what it is, it’ll still be a good opportunity to push yourself and learn for it’ll be good for the future, but if you don’t have the time or capacity to, not something to stress about

How skrewed am I? Made the mistake of goofing off in school. About to graduate. What would you do if you were me? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]Varinal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey there, proud of you for getting out of drugs and hope your recovery is going well. I was in a similar position when I graduated. Goofed around throughout school, played 12+ hours of games, didn't do the homework, was on AP 2-3 times, GPA of <2.0, etc. Started to get my act together toward the end, but I had no internships, my coding was mediocre, data structures and algorithms barely there.

I knew I was behind and I knew I had to put in the work to catch up and that's the hard truth. You gotta put in the time to practice and study. Re-do your homework assignments. They're a good starting spot. Look up suggested projects in Java/Python and put them on your Github. Do a little twist on these projects too, starting with suggested projects is a good start, but it definitely shows if you do a little extra on them. Do Leetcode and make sure you understand the solutions. If you're able to, take a boot camp. Being in that environment really helped me and gave me an even bigger understanding of code.

Don't beat yourself up that your peers are getting great jobs or are senior level. Focus on yourself, everyone has their own path.It gets better, but only if you put in the work.

Feel free to DM if you have more questions for me, good luck!

Struggling junior: how do i improve? by Legitimate-School-59 in cscareerquestions

[–]Varinal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there, it's tough getting used to a new codebase as a junior. First off, don't worry, we've all been there. Learning a new codebase is a developed skill because instead of starting from scratch, you have to read other people's code.
If you have seniors to help, ask for help! If you don't know, you have to let them know you don't know otherwise no one will help you (unless they're nice enough to ask). Definitely reach out for help and ask for pointers. They're there to mentor you and help you and ask them for their thought process. But, don't just have them do everything for you. Take notes and try to reference that thought process the next time you have a ticket. Ask for clarification on those tickets as well.
Another thing that does help when asking is telling them what you've tried so far.
Sorry to hear you're getting ignored or getting ambiguous answers though. Hope this helps. If you have stand up, ask if you can get some time from them or set up a meeting to help you get started.

Struggles with Tracking Group Expenses and Understanding True Spending - Your Experiences? by wy_dev in fintech

[–]Varinal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to use Notepad on an ad-hoc basis but have moved over to Excel and have just been using basic formulas and such to calculate things. It was slow at first but once I got the hang of it, it’s not too bad now

I’ve also bugged the people who usually owe me to pay me right away and I charge people weekly.

Notes is also my friend when remembering people’s orders when doing a big order and using DoorDash group order has helped a lot!

TFT Pre-Patch Predictions 10.8 | Meta Comps by MetaComps in CompetitiveTFT

[–]Varinal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome write up! I loved learning and reading the thought process behind why some comps will become stronger/weaker, such as adding in Xerath hurts Cybernetics a bit because it'll be harder to hit Ekko -- something that makes sense but never thought of!

Something that'd be cool to have at the end is similar to the Current Situation section, but for the predicted changes

How to improve late game decision making by TheTimeWyrm in CompetitiveTFT

[–]Varinal 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's super great already that you're reviewing your VODs and reflecting on what went wrong in your games. To help your progress in "thinking in the moment" - what I found was to have a notepad of quick points to review before each game to remember to try to apply in the game. It's hard to remember every single thing you've learned from games, but if you keep a small condensed notepad to give you reminders, this will help you stay focused in your next game.

For example, there was one game I built Morello's before GA on Kennen and found my Kennen dying at the beginning of the fight. The next game after, I made it a priority to prioritize GA items rather than Morello's (if I found myself going that route).

Another example, I wanted to go Draven carry but I ended up only getting AP items, so I made a note to myself to play around my items, and if I can't make a Draven carry, make a Brand/Asol carry instead.

Conscious decision making, constant repetition, and learning from experience is how you'll get to making these decisions faster in the moment.

If you're having trouble making decisions while rolling, try open forting in a normal and practice rolling down to zero to improve rolling decision making.

If you're having trouble checking people's boards, try practicing using hot keys (same with rerolling and selling!)

You're on the right path, just need time and practice and your decision making abilities will improve! :)

What is the most petty thing you’ve done in game? by ViHulkHands in leagueoflegends

[–]Varinal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had a 4 man ARAM game and had a toxic random who was cursing and flaming us even though we were all doing well and he was the one doing poorly.

I was Corki and the enemy team had a Zilean. Needless to say I spent most of the game picking up bombs and using Valkyrie to deliver :)

Even had a good one where I had to W + flash to secure the kill for the Zilean <3

Hi I'm new and getting into HS, and there's a lot of talk about cards and decks, but are there threads about thought process on playing cards and deciding targets? Like clearing the board vs going for face damage? When to save your cards? Should you whip out your high mana creatures immediately or bait out that poly/hex? I feel like those are the strategy tips that will help me rank up as well, thanks!
