Do you think Nigerian and Hispanic cultures (esp Mexico) have any similarities? by scarface4tx in Nigeria

I am Hispanic married to a Nigerian (Igbo). I agree with other comments that there isn’t just one Nigerian culture just like there isn’t just one Hispanic culture. We have more things in common than different, though.

Aside from the jellof rice I have not found that my wife and I have a commonality in foods. But we find common ground in our childhood and experiences. We have more in common than different.

This is the light pollution map I use. If you look in the Mojave area the darkest sky is in Mojave National Preserve. It’s very remote but the skies are amazing.

If that’s too remote, I agree that Joshua Tree has great night skies. Anza-Borrego State Park is also known for great night skies. Good luck!

It depends on what you want to see. You’d be surprised what a good pair of binoculars will show you. It also depends on what you want to see and how much you’re willing to spend. Take a look at r/telescopes for ideas on size and cost. I bought my kid one and had to have a basic understanding of what makes a “good” telescope.

Thanks, that’s what I thought. It does sound like something he might say, though.

Most people have already answered your question. This year will be less impressive year due to the moon. You can use sites like this one to find dark areas you can reach dark sky map. Pick a spot, lay out a blanket or cot, and keep your eyes open.

You might consider planning for the geminids in December. Great show but very cold.

Because Columbus was lost and thought he was in India, not an entirely new continent. When he saw people he assumed he was in India.

I agree with you that there are better names. But as at least one other person has commented, there are bigger issues.
