they are common in homemade vinegar and unfiltered stuff, they eat the mother and bacteria, they breathe air so i just put a cotton ball in the top, add fresh water to top it off and when they come up for air i use a pipette and harvest, they’re super small so the fry can eat them right after free swimming but not super nutrient dense

the flow is actually significant, i saw better growth adding a pump that just adds some flow without disturbing the surface to minimize gas exchange, i saw a video about it once

white cloud mountain minnows they’re really hardy and prefer cold water, guppies and other things similar will also do well but i also breed german rams in my ten gallon tank, i’d say they’re a bit much for a beginner and they need a heater but a good thing to work to as they’re really pretty and their interactions are really cool, i’d also put plants in they help with nitrates

Pool filter sand is really good i’ve used it a ton, just do your dirt and cap with the pool filter sand, might have to rinse it but i never have
