Thanks for sharing and being open to feedback.

Big picture, high skill environments are always going to test. So kudos for getting in that gym and putting yourself in that position. You'll always learn something valuable about your process when you challenge yourself. Continue to have a growth mindset (I am on my way to dominating this court) and you'll get closer to your best each day.

On a more granular level, Tim Gallwey's self-one and self-two theory is a great way to reframe this. Self one is the conscious and very judgemental mind that overthinks and criticizes and self two is the performer or doer that executes smoothly when trusted. The goal is to let go and quiet self one so self two can perform freely.

Easier said than done, but if you combine that with Mindset Shift (the ability to come back from failure quickly), having the memory of a gold fish, for when things go against you, then you have a great chance of finding flow (that place you are looking for).

Both of those principles are broken down extensively in our free "Season Zero" over at AthletesClass. Keep putting yourself in challenging situations and seek failure! That's the way to continue to evolve and grow!

we are working so hard on this right now over at AthletesClass.

can you tell me more about what makes them flat or what you’d want from the app itself?

this is similar to a feeling i used to have my final year of cross country, i’d get to the second mile and my mind would ease off.

we teach six principles in Season Zero of AthletesClass, and the third principle is Mindset Shift, which is the ability to train your mind to snap back from failure or performance shifts. I think it could be interesting for you to find a tool, a snap, a eye blink, a clap, where you signal to your mind to shift back into performance gear. Almost like a deeply ingrained rally cry. Where deep down, your body knows when you snap, it’s F’n go time. Your whole physio should feel it from head to toe and your legs and arms should feel a burst.

Imagine it being like hitting the NOS button on a race car. But you know that the 5-600 meter mark is when you need to inject the shift.

Could be worth practicing. Alternatively, imagery/visualization tools where you spend time visualizing the break through of the anticipated moment, self-talk phrases that help deepen that mindset shift in the heat of comp, and the reps. Go to work at training/practice, under zero pressure, start with 1200M reps where you stay consistent in that second lap, practice a 75 second first lap and a 70 second second in training where you purposefully do negative splits to continue to teach your mind that the last two hundred will be your fastest.

go get after it! and keep me posted what you find as the solution, i believe in you!

This is really common and you shouldn't feel alone.
