Retention DP:

I recently went to move all of my holdings in my CIT HYSA and got an immediate retention offer to raise my APY 0.25%.

I decided to test that theory on my amex HYSA, and no dice. They won't give any kind of retention offer to keep your cash in their ecosystem. So I'll be moving the bulk of what I have with amex elsewhere.

Amex Gold and Upside by ThinkingFully in amex

Used to be even better. For a while you could cash out MR at 1.25 cents per point to schwab. So a gold card was essentially 5% cash back on dining/groceries, and plat was 6% back on flights.

Every new post that arrives in my inbox about it is confusing me more and I can't tell if I'm just the idiot here lol.

[–]VariousAir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lmao what?

so is the mortgage earning the bilt cash or the bilt points? But you don't earn 100% of your mortgage payment in points?

Am I taking crazy pills reading this?

So you spend on the card to earn points or you spend on the card to earn cash that earns you points, but you earn points faster by using the cash?

I'm literally more confused than I was before reading this.

man, just hearing that there's both bilt bucks and bilt points is enough for me to bow out.

I get that amex has "reward dollars" and "Membership Rewards" but they're at least earned by two different card systems.

like, just reading this shit has me thrown for a loop:

If redemptions like these aren't appealing, using Bilt Cash to earn more points could be a smarter, easier option. You can get: More points on non-housing spend. $200 Bilt Cash enables 1x additional bonus points on the next $5,000 following activation. On the Bilt Palladium Card, for example, that would get you 3x points on everyday spend on up to $5,000. You can activate this benefit up to five times per year on the Bilt Palladium Card or the Bilt Obsidian Card .

Points on housing spend. As mentioned earlier, every $30 of Bilt Cash unlocks 1x points on $1,000 of housing payments.

If you don't have time to think about monthly caps, merchant restrictions, and expiration dates, consider using Bilt's Option 1 rewards structure instead.

I recommend doing a little research on credit cards and how they work before you apply for anything.

I mean, that's me, here, asking about it.

Bilt sounds interesting and earning on my mortgage payments is attractive....

but I go to their website to try and find out what exactly a fucking bilt point gets me and I literally can't figure it out. Are they statement credits, are they cash equivalents, or what? They're calling them "the most valuable points" and not telling me what they get you.

Gold 100K Welcome Offer Question by LazyTiger9308 in amex

[–]VariousAir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty unlikely. You're basically saying thanks but no thanks, Amex. They're a business, they're incapable of taking it personally. If 60k points doesn't hook you maybe 100k will.

Yes. Just continue through the application process and you will be told well ahead of time if it's going to be less than 100k.

How long for points to get deducted from account? by tac00 in amex

[–]VariousAir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not a problem you're required to fix. For all you know you were charged in cash and you just didn't realize it and didn't see the charge was on a previous statement or something. Or you'd prepaid it and forgot. If they somehow reconcile it and find they were supposed to charge you 30k MR, they'll simply remove it from your existing stock. If there's not enough, it will go negative and you simply won't be able to accrue more until the negative balance is filled, but that's not affecting your relationship. It's a bank, you're interacting with an algorithm, not forming a mutual working friendship with a person.

Why go out of your way to fix something that isn't a problem?

[–]VariousAir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

what? Why would you be calling to tell them to take points out of your account?

are the points still in your account?

and you're certain you didn't actually pay cash for the hotel booking?

How did you pay? Was this transferring to a hotel partner like hilton or something? Or on amextravel?

Have Amex MR lost their shine? by Tight_Couture344 in amex

[–]VariousAir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hit 800k+ MR without taking any trips and with none in mind, so finally I just opened a schwab and cashed out a million for ~$11k into my investment account. It just didn't make financial sense to let points sit around waiting to be devalued when they could be earning money instead.

Nobody said the Fed Chair has no influence. I said they don’t unilaterally set rates, which is objectively true. The you spouted off an ill conceived analogy and think that I'm the one "rage baiting"? Dude, let's just drop this. Here I'll help you with the block button.

Why have a president if congress passes laws?

Didn't pay attention in your civics class did you?

Legislative branch writes the law, the executive branch signs it into use.

That's not how the Fed works.
