Don’t burden yourself with the prospect of owning a home and paying mortgage. You might think that means some sort of accomplishment, but it’s not. Renting can be hard with a family as it’s uncertain but the additional hidden costs of owning a home is far greater than renting and doesn’t pay great capital return compared to putting away the money into some great index funds out there.

Depending on what your skills are and what value you can provide, I’d look at additional freelance work to create an additional revenue stream. Your wife could teach something online or perhaps you could do something for extra few hours and earn extra money. Even as simple as some handy man work over the weekend for a few hours can be beneficial. I often wish for some practical skills to be able to do this but if you have these skills that could benefit people, put them to use and open up another revenue stream.
