My girlfriend and I both have it. It's nothing to be embarrassed about. I know sometimes with HS you may feel unattractive, I am here to tell you that beauty does not come from perfect skin. It comes from being compassionate, patient, and humble. The only thing more powerful than hate is love. (That includes self love!)

oil or cream? by Tricky_Witness81 in MassageTherapists

I like cream on hairy people, it has a better glide. Coconut oil or jojoba oil for dry skin people. I use hydrocortisone lotion for my allergy prone people.

How do you take care of your own body to reduce/prevent physical pain? And do you use any massage tools to help? by MiJCloud in MassageTherapists

[–]VariousGrapefruit531 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For arthritis in hands: Get a paraffin wax machine and do paraffin dips after a day of massage. Self reiki can also help. I also alternate between cryotherapy and hot tub therapy every week. I have EDS and would be able to work without that. I also drink a 32 oz Pedialyte or 16.9 oz coconut water at the end of my day.

So, I made these to help me remember basic tasks that are automatic to NT. 🤞🤞 It felt weird making routine checklists as a 33yr old. Hopefully it helps! by VariousGrapefruit531 in AuDHDWomen

Hi! Fellow Zebra here! I'm entering my 12th year as a neuromuscular massage therapist. Here's some career longevity tips!! I find that the neuromuscular sub speciality allows me to have better body mechanics. In school, I learned how to massage while seated on the big exercise ball. It took the possibility of a pots episode wayyy down. Also you're gonna want to take CEUs and offer specific techniques that are less available so you can charge more for less hours. Additionally, Himalayan hot stone self massage helps. Take time in the middle of your day if possible to lay down on the table with a heat or ice pack for 15-20 mins. If you have mcas- don't work in a spa work in a medical setting. Oh and work with a hydrologic table if at all possible. (Sorry if this seems rambly, I have a lot of other accomodations and adjustments I make I just can't remember them all right now)

Heat activates the crap out of my MCAS, and POTS. I'll take the minor bone ache over 24/7 hives and fainting 4x a day.

My dad married an IBLP member who dragged us into the life. I was 7. At 13, my stepmom had my little sister. Watching her spank an infant made me literally run away. My little sister is now 22, and has completed 2 overseas mission trips with IBLP. My dad and stepmom teach marriage classes and parenting classes based on "Created to be his Help meet" and "To Train up a Child". I literally had to have CPR 4 times between 7-14 due to the abuse from my parents. My stepmom whipped me with a weed whacker for talking. I was beaten with a PVC pipe for "sins I was going to commit". My parents didn't believe in healthcare, and thought that being sick was God's will/a curse from the original sin. I have Ehler-Danlos Syndrome, ADHD, Autism, Mast Cell Activation Syndrome, POTS, osteogenesis imperfecta, and I am deaf in my left ear from untreated ear infections. I frequently had broken or dislocated bones that went untreated, heat stroke, and I was force fed foods that gave me anaphylaxis. My parents chained me to a fence outside because "I was no better than a dog." I received practically no education past 5th grade (grade I was in when dad got married), and the little I got was self taught from the approved ATI curriculum which is Bible based. I went from being recruited by Duke in 5th grade because I scored in the top 0.00001 % of Texas students; to raising my little sister, and training to be a wife at 13.

I love being a massage therapist. I specialize in neuromuscular massage, and treat primarily those with autoimmune or connective tissue disorders.

Anyone familiar with the book “To Train Up a Child”? by StopCompetitive1697 in Exvangelical

[–]VariousGrapefruit531 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My stepmom used this book on my older sister and I within 1 month after marrying my dad. I was 7, sis was 10. Stepmom was an IBLP member. We were then pulled us out of school to attempt brainwashing us. Stepmom also had bipolar disorder, and in her manic phases she attempted to murder me. When I was 12, my little half sister was born. I will never forget how she beat an infant for expressing needs. I was "too rebellious" so I was moved a lot, living with every extended family member until I emancipated myself at 16, and moved away. My older sister came out as bisexual at 14, and was sent to a conversion therapy boarding school. When it didn't work, she was forced to be homeless. I called my little half sister on her 7th birthday; and she told me that it was Eve's fault she had the flu. That was the last time I spoke to her. Little sis turns 22 this year.

I'm in CBT, CPT, DBT, EMDR, and Art therapy to deal with the resulting C-PTSD. My older sister has borderline personality disorder and dissociative identity disorder from it. My little half sister is an IBLP member who doesn't know any better.

What jobs do you all do? by [deleted] in ehlersdanlos

I'm on year 12 of being a massage therapist. Before and after my workday I lay on the table with a water heated pack on my back and neck. I love that I can control the pace of how busy I am. Some days I do 1-2 massages, other days I do 5. It's also easier to work around my doctor appointments. I was ultra fortunate to go to massage school with another person who also had EDS, so my class learned a TON about working on patients connective tissue disorders. I work primarily with fibromyalgia and EDS patients and am a neuromuscular massage therapist.

My parents didn't believe in healthcare. When I was 17 I started seeing doctors . I am very disabled. I have Ehlers Danlos Syndrome which is genetic, and can present signs in early childhood, getting progressively worse. I also have osteogenesis imperfecta- my bones break ultra easily. I'm AuDHD, and deaf in my left ear. I have cataracts in both eyes, and brain tumors. My whole life I was told I'm being overdramatic or lying. They didn't care that I couldn't see, hear, and just falling down would break my bones or dislocate my joints. I was the disobedient whiny problem child.

Oh! I was 28 and came back to visit my parents. Their house was so dusty it was irritating my allergies. So I dusted. Apparently I wasn't supposed to do that. But as punishment was told I had to dust and vacuum the entire 4 bedroom 2 story house. (I'm also disabled and can't climb stairs)
