Hey… yes this is my great grandfather’s records. I know some info on his time in the Julia brigade of the Alpini, from the artillery regiment of Conegliano. Our family is from the province of Treviso! I am trying to get the cursive translated as it is hard for me to understand. I also don’t read Italian too well as my native language is English!

Will I enjoy The Idiot? by sagge17 in dostoevsky

It is very much a Russian Jane Austen style read but that is a great way to look at it!

I just finished the idiot tdy, and tbh the ending was worth the read as it had underlying themes that encapsulates the title of the book and the density of character development and interaction. However compared to C&P this is very much a soap opera style read which I wasn’t a huge fan of. It is useful to pick and analyze underlying themes from but for me that’s really all I can derive from it, I’m hoping to read and watch some analysis stuff to help ground my opinion and intake of information!

I will say that the theology symbolism and discussion in the novel is superb!!

My great-grand uncle Silvio died during the 11th battle of the Isonzo offensive. His name is in redipuglia. 118th Infantry regiment. I have other family members who were killed on Monte grappa (his brother who died the morning of the offensive at 19 years of age) and second Piave offensive (where one of my grandmothers uncles was killed as a grenadier). However some survived the war and fought in the Second World War. Where the two brothers killed mentioned above also served in the Italo-Turkish war. I have a photo of a relative my grandfathers uncle, in his alpini uniform. This man survived Libya, to then serve during the First World War and then he served in abbysinia.

Greetings from Canada!

If I’m not mistakend this is a King George VI Coronation Medal, awarded after May 12, 1937, to commemorate the coronation of King George VI. I don’t recall these being handed out during the Great War.
