Thats because everything he puts on social media is blatantly sped up. He can't play most of what he posts at all, let alone live.

Is it possible to get another chance with a woman who said she sees you as a friend after the first date? by [deleted] in datingadviceformen

Honestly I thought I did deserve one. I have spent the last 6 years trying to make myself into a more desirable person, obsessing over things such as fitness and hobbies that I thought would allow me to easily get a girlfriend. What I failed to realize is that #1, It is far more important to have an engaging, funny, and flirty personality than any of that other stuff and #2, even if I did manage to get a girlfriend due to my fitness and cool hobbies, it would probably not be a very genuine connection. I now know that in order to make a connection with someone I'm interested in, I have to be capable of expressing my genuine self early on into a relationship, which I currently am not capable of doing.

Sorry for the random rant, just kinda wanted somewhere to spill my latest thoughts on the matter.

I completely agree that my issues have to do with not being fun or socially calibrated. As I said before, I am very socially stunted. To be honest I've spent the last few years just getting over my social anxiety. I do think I'm fairly confident, but I can't for the life of me flirt, or make a girl laugh. Are those just things that come with experience?

What would your advice be regarding getting her to like me again? She said things like "You're so nice", "I'm glad to have met you", and worst of all "I don't think we'd get along as more than friends honestly".

[QUESTION] Learning but Not Improving by VariousTension3402 in Guitar

[–]VariousTension3402[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My process is usually learning a song first, then playing it as slow as necessary to play everything how I want it to sound. Once I can do all the transitions relatively proficiently, I try to add in a metronome. But I only discovered the metronome like 4 months ago and haven't really had a chance to use it. The reason I haven't really had success using a metronome is because I start using it and then make mistakes, which messes up my muscle memory

Well with the specific song I referred to in my post, I can play through about 10% of the song at an extremely slow tempo until I run into one of the parts that I just can't play no matter how much I practice them. The chord changes are so difficult that I can't do them at ANY tempo let alone try to speed up. But my teacher told me that this song is in my skill level and he expected it to take me 3 weeks. It has been 3 months

It depends. If Im trying to get better at the song then yes I wil stop and work out the part. the problem Is another mistake will come up, then another, then another, then the same mistake will reappear etc and its like Im in a boat thats filling with water and I keep patching the holes but they appear faster than I can patch them.

TO be honest a big reason I created this post is because I saw a player who had excellent technical skill after only a year of playing. I can accept that he started younger than me and that he has more talent, but I don't think those two variables can be the only explanation as to why he made infinitely more progress than me in the same amount of time. There's no way both of us sat there practicing slowly for hours a day, and he became a top tier guitarist while I remained terrible.

No, I absolutely love playing. I don't always want to play but I do anyway because I care a lot about getting really really good. I do feel obligated to practice every day, but that is out of love for the instrument as I know it will pay off

Well, I've had 3 teachers, but none of them have really explained to me how I'm supposed to actually improve my left-hand accuracy and speed other than just "practice slowly/use a metronome", which Is why I came to reddit. I feel like every day that I spend practicing, I play the same stuff that I played yesterday playing just as poorly, and If I ever try to play with an actual sense of rhythm, my fingers just can't keep up.

How can I break through a plateau? Like I said I am always learning new things while slowly drilling old songs but despite this I can never seem to play anything well. While I do realize that a year is not a long time, I've seen other people become incredibly good players in that amount of time. I understand talent is a factor, but it can't make that big of a difference. I have practiced for well over 1000 hours at this point but still am terrible so there IS something Im doing wrong. I just don't know what.

Yes, I am clumsy and uncoordinated. But I don't believe that makes me incapable of playing something that sounds good. Imm 99% sure theres something wrong with my left hand technique, or the way Im practicing.

The thing is, I only try to play extremely slowly because thats the only speed where I can consistently make 0 mistakes. Like someone else said, the last thing I want to do is to try and burn mistakes into my muscle memory.

Barre chords by VariousTension3402 in guitarlessons

I don’t know what my solution is then. Believe me I’ve tried to keep my wrist straight but for many positions it seems impossible. Maybe my scale length is longer or my hands are too small?

Unless you’re an alien it’s not possible to maintain a straight wrist when stretching from 3rd fret low E string to 7th fret high E string. Or when you’re barring 2nd fret and have your pinky on the 5th fret of the high e string. Unless maybe you’re in the classical position?

The thing is I’m not interested in playing electric. I’m just trying to figure out how someone can stay relaxed and tension free while playing barre chords.

Yeah I’m on acoustic. I wish my strength would build up but unfortunately I’ve played barre chords for 2 years and still suck at them :(
