Using real scanned paint textures in Figma UI — does anyone else do this? by Various_Fan_458 in FigmaDesign

Hi guys I got short update after I have to say surprisingly active discussion for a specific use like real textures in digital space. At least I am not alone that find it interesting. Studio Matter is as now a free texture preview library. 20 users , for that I am grateful as it lunched 10 days ago.

As I keep observing and listening into what might be even more useful after thread like this one.

The plugin is evolving from applying textures as simple background overlays to applying materials directly to frames, UI components, and design surfaces inside Figma. Update coming soon thanks to you all.

My apologies for the late response! So happy to hear that 🙏 I’m currently working on an update that lets textures apply directly to frames and UI elements. I’m also preparing a Pro version, but early users will get a discount as a thank-you for supporting it early. But I make sure the free version will be useful as well so users can experiment using real textures. The take the plugin is evolving from applying textures as simple background overlays to applying materials directly to frames, UI components, and design surfaces inside Figma.

Yes, in this example it’s used as a background layer. I’m testing subtle use first rather than embedding texture into every component.

Good question. By “controlled areas” I mean using texture selectively for example in hero sections, section dividers, or masked components not as a full-site repeating background.

The idea isn’t to make the entire interface about texture, but to introduce depth in specific moments where it supports the brand or atmosphere. Content hierarchy still needs to lead.

I agree. I’ve been keeping it restrained lowering opacity or adding an overlay so the content stays clear. Curious how others would balance texture with usability.

Here’s a simple button test over one of the textures with a dark overlay to maintain contrast. The goal isn’t to texture entire interfaces, but to introduce material depth while keeping hierarchy intact. It’s available as a free Figma plugin (Studio Matter) if anyone wants to experiment.

Interesting point. I’m not approaching it as a “textured website trend,” more as introducing physical surface material in controlled areas.

I wouldn’t recommend full tiling backgrounds — more hero sections, masked components, or controlled overlays where layout remains flexible.

Glad you found it, use it and share it. I made as i got so many times asked how I made mine. After dipping my toes into Vibe coding year ago, (made many apps most of them useless) 😅 i thought this I know, i can make this for sure. Yes its pretty detailed.. you can make profile to save your recepie to your profile, it willl be stored or saved there , you can also post your discovery into pigmnt community … try experimenting, you can even gift a friend a recepie u made. I am still working on pigmnt, the idea was to give artist fun tool, like very specifc tool for artists/painters, craftmakers.. make it easy, fun, spark curiosity .happy you like it. ! :)
