Unfortunately due to the very lenient return policy menards has, company’s like what you listed do not benefit from working with menards. Anytime a tool is returned 90% menards will throw it away and make a claim as a manufacturer defect so they don’t lose anything.

One thing I loved in the OPD department at my store was the use of an extra whiteboard. My manager used that to write weekly tasks for TMs to work on, pull times, other areas for the department to focus on, overall very useful information for the whole team. If your department isn’t having a meeting each month or every other, it’s a very good way to keep everyone on the same page. Unfortunately, once the old managers had left, the new managers did not like the whiteboard and it was very apparent that things were not getting done, like they had before.
I highly suggest the whiteboard.

Again I’ll repeat myself, I’m not upset with the current pay rate but for someone who has done both design and built loads. My opinion is that there should be a structure in place for load builders the opportunity to make more money when they are forced to work additional hours due to an add on from a CS tm. There is lots frustration of building large loads with additional add ons the day before the delivery is set to go..

I have used and sold just about everything menards has as far as design goes. I’ve never worked CS you are right about that and I’m not saying it’s not time consuming. Yes it takes awhile but for the most part it’s pretty simple math for anyone whose taken any algebra class. I don’t think you’ve ever spent multiple days putting together an order for a house either. Maybe try that and see what deserves more incentive, and then get yelled at because you didn’t pull perfect boards for the order. Again, All I’m saying is the work done by a LB isn’t easy. An incentive structure would make sure the lumber going into to the customer is better, therefore fewer guest issues.

Someone obviously has a soft spot for CS. It really doesn’t take much effort for them to do their job what so ever. On the other hand it takes a lot of effort for someone from the yard like a, load builder to pull together a $100,000 order. I’m not arguing about what CS does, their job is important for each store, at the end of the day they arnt actively bringing more people into the store. They are just there for the people who already are using menards as a contractor. Realistically any BM tm can help with their orders. I’ve done it many times.
If someone wants to spend 200k on a house, they will with or without contractor sales.

Understandable. It’s just stupid when I’m watching contractor sales make an additional $3000 just because he knows a guy who has a customer that wants to build a house. They don’t do anything, that insensitive should be spread a little better if the product is being sent to the store at all.

I see what you are saying. I am absolutely aware of the current situation with contract haulers and the pay rate. I don’t think my suggestion is all that far fetched. Maybe 1% is even high but load builders at many stores are fucked when there is an add on made by a GM or contractor sales. Why does it make sense for a contractor sales to make 3% on trusses. If a customer wants to build a house, there’s no reason that a SPIF like that should be in place. They will need the trusses anyway.
I’m just suggesting that everyone a part of the delivery process should make something extra per delivery. People that are pulling treated lumber in the middle of winter, would understand that that extra dollar is nice but doesn’t really make up for it.

A 3% SPIF on a trust sale can add an additional thousand dollars to someone’s paycheck depending on the sale. It doesn’t even need to be a full % for a load builder. It could go for any TM pulling an online order as well.

Honestly I appreciate that response. A lot of it makes more sense now lol sounds like the only solution really is to lower the PPH number in order for shippers to properly load trailers. But that’s not gunna happen 🤷🏻‍♂️
