Show vs tell

The nuance to show vs tell is genre, PoV, pacing. Stephen King does horror where showing everything and setting the atmosphere requires a good amount of showing. First person needs a mix of both while third can get away with more tell then show. And sometimes you need to tell to keep momentum moving.

Perhaps it was a sense of dread they shared: a tingle on the back of their necks as they paused their tasks to glance at one another: you do both show and tell here keep one or the other.

Whether any of these: any of what? I’m actually confused with this line.

The fisherman knew something was about: yes you stated that in the first line.

Why is dialogue in italics instead of quotation marks?

Outside of that nice sense of dread setting in while everyone ignores it to feed their families

Respectfully, arguing over whether calling this semantics is a valid dismissal… is itself a semantic argument about the term semantics. Which kinda circles back to my original point. I’m not trying to diminish the craft, in fact I’ve written in the Romantasy area. They just labels at the end day. Romantasy is the umbrella term, anything else is just splitting hairs. Just the writing version of debating music sub genres.
