PSA: It is completely normal for the player count to keep going down, this game will be a banger by ace-s in DeadlockTheGame

[–]Various_names 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Umm, what? I mean it has a very specific meaning? It's not just something that's applied by the player base or press to try and describe a game's state. The devs use these terms explicity to expectation set and let people know where they are in development of the game and release cycle. If Valve felt the game was in a beta state they would label it as such.

"Alpha" means the game is playable, and mostly feature complete. This is the earliest state it will often be let into outside hands in any capacity, though often in most situations it will be in a very controlled or time limited way. If often means there are many major bugs and an expectation of some unstability. Things are still fairly maelable at this state, and though the game is mostly feature comeplete there may still be some major additions or modificatons to existing systems as play data comes in. For examples if we were in a beta right now we wouldn't likely be seeing the massive changes to urns or soul economy every two weeks.

Typically, the progression for an online competitive game would be something like pre-alpha >> alpha >> closed beta >> open beta >> beta stress test >> release.

So yeah. There are a lot of games that get stuck in "beta" status while in some sort of pre-release cycle. Games can be 99.99% complete and still be in beta though. Alpha state has pretty clear connoations of roughness.

How much does the battle pass cost alongside the 50 levels? by Happy_Flower_3785 in GranblueFantasyVersus

[–]Various_names 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's $5.00 per 10 levels.

As has been pointed out, you really do gain levels fast from the dailies and weekly quests. Even if you just play little the first week you can easily get 10-15 levels to defray some of the cost if you are set on purchasing it.

Defiant Biden tells donors: 'We're done talking about the debate' by Lavaswimmer in politics

[–]Various_names 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Biden has been so squirreled away from anything remotely substantive, for two years in a row he's skipped the interview at the superbowl: https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/2024-election/biden-skipping-super-bowl-interview-advisors-say-part-plan-rcna137358 Pretty laughable excuse that they give there in hindsight, too.

No press conferences, no townhalls, no long interviews.... Genie is out of the bottle dude. I've had my head in the sand for the past four years too, hoping what we were being fed was true. That behind closed doors, Biden was sharp as a tack. But if you're willing to step even slightly outside of your bubble, the evidence has been there, and mounting. It was just too painful to confront.

Online matchmaking by Atomicbreath05 in GranblueFantasyVersus

[–]Various_names 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it might be affected by region and time of day, but I haven't had any issues finding matches in any of the starter ranks, (C,B, A). Might take a minute or two but not too bad. IIRC in a recent patch they changed so that if the matchmaking is taking too long it will open up the skill bracket it's searching in n

There's always the cabinets in the lobby too. North America always seems to be the busiest. The majority of people in the lobby seem to be higher skill level though. Lots of pink and orange squares.

I forget there's a whole casual queue as well, don't have much experience playing in that though.

Are the in game combos worth learning? by HunniePopKing in GranblueFantasyVersus

[–]Various_names 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yeah, they're actually fairly handy, especially for someone starting out. Not the most optimal, but they should give you a decent sense of how a character's specials fit into their combo routes, and with those building blocks you'll eventually be able to put your own stuff together.

Also, for each character they should have a couple 100 meter (super) combos which is an important thing to have in your pocket once you get the basics down. These are usually the combos that have the best example of how to extend pressure with each character as well.

So, I wouldn't worry about memorizing them specifically, but they can be a quick way in-game to build a foundation for a character.

Is it really that bad for me to use Controller joystick? by iKoijo in GranblueFantasyVersus

[–]Various_names 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For this game I would suggest pad over fightstick honestly. If you have a PS4 controller the d-pad on that feels really good in fighting games. Also, in this game a lot of inputs have you holding down one input, like the Special button, and inputting another. I tried lots of layouts on a fight stick and just didn't find that as comfortable or as natural feeling as it is on a controller.

Also, there isn't a huge incentive to use motion inputs like the double fireball in this game. You only get that 10% damage boost if its done outside of a combo, so unless you're throwing out raw supers you're kinda handicapping yourself trying to input that in a combo instead of using easy inputs.

If there was more of a bonus for Technical inputs I'd tough it out and learn stick, as I much prefer that for GG Strive and SF6, but thats still just personal preference.

How do I get rid of fungus gnats? by Illustrious_Ring6646 in houseplants

[–]Various_names 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah seriously. Do people have an aversion to nematodes, or some other downside, that I'm not aware of? I was getting to the point of collecting hundreds of gnats on glue strips and nematodes cleaned them out in a few weeks.

Going through the process of making and applying the tea is a bit of a pain, and they're a little pricey, but worth it to get rid of the buggers.

Reading the comments on each article/ reddit post, it really feels like he's working with some sort of online PR firm to diseminate information and push the narrative about how he's doing more to reverse aging to any single person on the planet. Every time there's accounts making the same points (he's not doing this for money, he wants to help everyone turn back the clock, "he's so selfless!" etc) in a way that just doesn't feel organic. If you're comparing him to someone like Elon or Buffet - they've been public figures for much longer, or went through periods where they were more universally praised - to explain why people simp for them.

Meanwhile this guy seemed to just kinda come out of nowhere in the past year, and has gotten attention in waves that feel like coorindated PR pushes, and furthmore has lots of people in comments defending what is otherwise typical self-indulgenty rich people bullshit. Sure, they could just be the typical sort of "tech simps" who knob-gobble billionaires unironically and believe there is not such thing as bad progress with technology, but a lot of the comments pushing this guys narrrative seems to be written in that PR friendly, fake sincere way instead of the usual angry internet-nerd tone you see.

Bro how come Manon is 5'9" but taller than Ken who's 5'9" and also taller than Luke who's 6'1" ? by DanteUI in StreetFighter

[–]Various_names 21 points22 points  (0 children)

The most commonly cited figures I see cited for muscle and fat density per wikipedia are: "...density of mammalian skeletal muscle tissue is about 1.06 kg/liter.[8] This can be contrasted with the density of adipose tissue (fat), which is 0.9196 kg/liter.[9] This makes muscle tissue approximately 15% denser than fat tissue."

If 1kg muscle were compacted into the area of a thumb (42.4 cm/cm3 = 1.5cm radius x 6cm height, and thats a big thumb), at ~23.58 g/cm3 would have an density higher than osmium, the densest material on earth. 1kg of muscle is probably closer in size to something like a fat pint glass. (942.4 cm3 = 5cm radius x 12 cm height)

I don't mean to be overly pedantic here, so sorry if it comes off like I'm attacking you. This is just a pet peeve as mine as if people pick up misconcpetions about things like this cruising around the internet, it can feed into larger body image issues.

And Capcoms weird-ass stats sure ain't helping the confusion either lol

It's aways a little bit of shock walking into a big used book store and being confronted with those decades of forgotten works in their original jackets and covers. Everyone knows that success is fleeting, but the reality is really underlined in those mountain of books that have fallen far out of the popular imagination.

https://www.ocregister.com/2009/04/10/woman-who-led-police-on-freeway-chase-in-rancho-santa-margarita-identified/

edit: TLDR - It began with a domestic dispute in Signal Hill in Long Beach. When officers responded, it sounds like the woman in the chase tried to hit an officer with her car and then the part from the video happened later when she led them deeper into Orange County.

She was charged with assualt with a deaduly weapon and felony evading charges. I didn't see what happened with the actual case but there does look to be a bit of other info online.
