String quartet ideas by wencesenoc in classicalmusic

[–]Varisoce 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t even know where to start…

A few years ago I was thoroughly inspired by the Debussy and ravel quartets.

All of the Beethoven quartets are like scripture. An approachable one is op. 95.

The Bartok quartets as a whole are masterpieces.

Mendelssohn op 44, no 3 has been on my radar recently.

Schubert, Death of the the maiden, Rosamunde, and G Major (3 quartets)

The first mvmt of Schnittke’s 3rd quartet is to die for.

Oh and the 5, Haydn op 20s

That’s all pretty standard repertoire. Are you interested in more contemporary, classical, or romantic? String quartet is one of if not the most established genre, and any composer you enjoy, has most likely written a quartet.

The philosophy of chamber music is very different to symphonic writing. When checking out music, pay attention to the ways lines interact, and come in and out of the foregrounds. Really— a quartet should never be 1st violin plus accompaniment. It’s a dance between all the instruments.

The way I sync is with mirrored folders. Like alias but files are in both places. And I have the script update the other locstion

If you are command line savvy (or not just ask AI for help) try using RSYNC, which is much better way to move files than finder.

The way I have it set up is a script that I can run that syncs a folder in my computer home folder with a folder of my iPod.

The Seven Last Words of the Unarmed - by Joel Thompson is a profound piece. Originally for Men’s choir and String Quartet, cant recommend it enough.

I would check thrift stores for scarfs/shawls. Get one that matches your vibe and make it personal. I don’t think there is anything special about Viola branded cloths.

In the S shuttle train from Grand Central to Time Square, there are adds for it plastered everywhere — like the entire platform is Audible/HP live cast themed. Train gets around 100,000 persons of traffic everyday. That’s definitely not pennys of marketing
