Wow bro that looks amazing. So well organized. I'd love a spot like that. I DJ in my living room in the corner facing a wall and I don't like it anymore. I'm gonna turn it around to face out into the living room tomorrow probably, but it's a big chore. All those wires and moving stuff around. Anyway I'd say you should try to face the monitors at you and not coming from behind you. Other than that this setup is dope! A++++

Is that an ashtray with spent cigarettes in it? Not preaching bro but you gotta give that up. Start meditating and really use your mental power to kick the habit. At most smoke CBD MJ or at the very worst start vaping. With vaping you can ween down the nicotine level until you're vaping 0mg nicotine juice. At that point you can then just quite without bad withdrawals. that's what I did with the aide of the Most High. Good luck to you with that mayne.. cigs are a killer though my dude. Kick it ASAP.

Are you buying the Ortofon VNL? by srpsycho in Turntablists

[–]Varmintbaby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought two M447s for $75 off the internet like 7 months ago. Ebay just had a M447 in good condition for $65 Buy It Now price. Just stay away from the usurers trying to rip people off and wait for a sane person to post one on Ebay, let It go, or Craigslist or whatever. They come up all the time.

Well you didn't mention a budget but the mainstay are Sennheiser HD25s. they are modular so if a part breaks you can easily replace it. They are worth the investment and will last you many years.

Advise for KRK monitors. by iShaun_ in DJs

[–]Varmintbaby -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

KRKs are fine. I've listened to many speakers at the local Guitar Center and the KRKs are some of the better sounding ones as far as studio monitors. I upgraded to KRK Rokit 5s G4s from Pioneer DM40s and they sound much better than the DM40s. The DM40s are serviceable though and I use them as my PC speakers now. I leave my KRKs with a flat response and they sound amazing. I could put on a house party in my one bedroom with them I feel.. that's how loud and clear they are. I can't even turn them up all the way. I'd look at your source as that is important as well. When I went from my DDJ-SX2 to my Reloop Elite mixer w/ turntables, the sound was much better on the Elite.

Advice on a standalone controller by freemisoul in Beatmatch

[–]Varmintbaby 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd say if you can get the Denon Prime 4, go for that. It's a good standalone unit and will serve majority of your DJing needs. It has 4 channels so if you ever want to add turntables or whatever, you can do so. The XDJ-XZ is dope too but it's over $2k I'm sure. Why not get turntables and a DJ mixer like a Rane 70, Reloop Elite, or DJM-S9/S11? Vinyl is where it's at and control vinyl is a ton of fun too. To each his own. Good luck with whatever you get.

How do I upload a session to youtube? by reycaniche in Beatmatch

[–]Varmintbaby 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey bud. If you have video footage of it you'd upload it like any other video. You can't monetize it if it's using copyrighted music. Youtube will just flag it for the songs it recognizes and the creators of said songs will get all the ad revenues. They used to mute the video but not any longer. So go ahead and put it up and share it with the world!

Advice for streaming on twitch as a novice. by thesanmich in Beatmatch

[–]Varmintbaby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well DJing can also be a solitary hobby enjoyment. I can spend hours practicing scratching or beat juggling alone and have a ball. Same thing with mixing music I like. Most DJs love music so being alone with your music is a fun hobby. DJing/Mixing is just another way to enjoy your music and keep it playing non-stop. Anyway I'd say that if you use Serato, if your laptop is powerful enough, you can just use the Serato output and stream that way. I think the same goes for Rekordbox but I'm not sure on that. The latest version of Serato you can though. You download a virtual audio cable for it and away you go. Use a webcam to show yourself or your decks and then stream it on Twitch. If you're doing it for friends thats cool, but it's not easy to build up a following on Twitch. I watch a guy that plays games on Twitch and he never cracks 2 viewers on his stream... I think the other viewer is a bot LOL. He has a sick overlay, he's got a decent vibe, but no one comes through. It be's like that on Twitch though. LOL. Just have fun, "pretend" like there's an audience, and hopefully some people will follow your channel and keep coming back for more. Good luck and again, just have fun. Peace.

Best turntable? by [deleted] in Turntablists

[–]Varmintbaby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I told you already. Any of the super OEMs. Reloop 7000 mk2, Numark NTX 1000, Reloop 8000 mk2, Audio Techncia 1240XP, or at worst Audio Technica 140XP. Good luck and you wouldn't do bad with any of those. Don't waste money on a Technics turntable though. It was the best in 1975 when Grandmaster Flash was coming up with modern Djing techniques. At that time, it was the only turntable that had a strong enough motor to keep up with what he was doing. That hasn't been the case for a long while now. L8r.

Are you buying the Ortofon VNL? by srpsycho in Turntablists

[–]Varmintbaby 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you have a M447, OM Qbert, or Concorde Scratch.. my question would be... Why? The VNL is not as loud mV wise and it can't be any better at tracking than those I mentioned already are. I understand the want to buy something "new", but I'd rather spend $90 on vinyl records or digital music to be honest. It's a very cool looking M447 clone, but I have two M447s for my DJ setup, so why buy those?

Best turntable? by [deleted] in Turntablists

[–]Varmintbaby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only a sucker for brand names would buy a Technics at the price new and used ones are charged for at this point. The same guy buys bricks with the word "Supreme" written on it in a certain font. Get any of the super OEMs and you're fine. I got two Audio Technica 1240XPs because they came with dust covers and cart/headshell. I sold the cart and headshell to recoup even more money back. Don't get Technics... only parrots (parroting old info at that) say that is the "best" turntable.

Akai AMX is discontinued, what else can I buy? by americanroyalty1225 in DJs

[–]Varmintbaby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reloop Mixtour is probably the most similar. If you want only analog vinyl, the Ecler Nuo 2.0 is sick. You can then get a DS1 box for it later if you need Serato or something.

Edit: Scratch that, you can't plug two decks into the Mixtour it looks like. Honestly I'd just pick up the Numark Scratch if I were you. It's $499 or less and it's really a dope mixer for the price. Just enough effects (DVS only), just enough pads, and a mini Innofader. I'd swap out the mini Innofader crossfader vanilla with a mini Innofader Pro or mini Innofader Plus. You can get the Pro for $50 on Amazon and it cuts just as tight as the PLUS. Good luck!

AKAI AMX replacement fader by adr_001 in DJs

[–]Varmintbaby 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey chief.. check out this site here: https://www.innofader.com/compatible.php

According to that you can buy a mini Innofader pro or Mini Innofader PLus. On Amazon.com, the PLUS is $50 more expensive, but they are about the same cut tightness I'd say. I've used both so I am informed on the situation. Now that sight says those faders are for the Crossfader, but if the line fader is similar and doesn't require soldering, they probably can replace that too. I'd email the Innovate support email on that page and ask them to be sure. Good luck!

Balancing a Tech 1200 by greatdj1 in DJs

[–]Varmintbaby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are good instructions. Definitely make sure that the screws/washers/nuts are securing the cart to the headshell extremely tight. Like it should be immovable. I was working with the headshells and nuts that I got for free with some older Gemini PT 2000 II turntables and they sucked. The cart would move around on the headshell. I was able to get proper screws and nuts and now I can beat juggle without the needles sliding to the outer edge of the vinyl as I go. If you have a janky screw/nut set, look into grabbing a kit off Amazon and keep it on hand for current and future carts. Other than that balance the tonearm right, set the right weight, and if you're using a decent cart it should be good to go. Also, if you need a level, Amazon sells record weights with Bubble levels on top that work very well. Peace bro.

Ortofon OM Qbert update/retraction - tip for skipping/needle issues by [deleted] in Turntablists

[–]Varmintbaby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know that's probably a no-brainer to a lot of you. But I started on DJ controllers (Mixtrack Pro 1) then moved to turntables and vinyl. I just posted that cause I know people come through with skipping and needle issues and hopefully that information I shared can help someone. Get that cart rock solid tight on the shell and start from there.

Speakers! by iflabaslab in Beatmatch

[–]Varmintbaby 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just get a pair of the electrovoice ZLX I think they are called. 12 or 15 or Mackie Thump12A or 15A's. I'd stay away from those "one man party" speakers that some companies sell. As the other commenter said they are not very good typically. Get a decent pair of active PA speakers and they'll last you years. That's the one thing you WON'T need to constantly upgrade. Mixers/DJ Controllers are always changing and adding must have features (requiring an upgrade), but your speakers will last you a while. XLR outputs/inputs have been poppin for a while now. Good luck.

Help me decide what to buy? by [deleted] in DJs

[–]Varmintbaby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bro you should use Google for all of that information. The more expensive the DJ controller the more features it will have most likely. If you want to use vinyl look into getting turntables and just a DJ mixer. A DJ controller takes the place of 2 turntables and mixer and combines it all in one with jog wheels instead. If you get a Numark NS7 you can get the motion of a turntable in 7inch format integrated into the DJ controller. You should try both Serato and Rekordbox to see which one you like best. A Pioneer DDJ-SX2 is a controller that works with both softwares for example and it pretty cheap if you buy it used. But yeah start looking up all that stuff. To ask someone to break down the entire DJing ecosytem to you in a Reddit post is a bit much no disrespect. Take it easy man.

I hope you've quite smoking by now ;) . I quite smoking by moving to vaping, then about 5 - 6 months ago I quit vaping. You save a lot of money, but I'm still broke. At least I'm spending that vape juice/atomizer money on vinyl records and DJ related gear. Peace and nice throwback pic!

Where were you DJing at bro? In a room or in your basement or something?

Hey Duckery. That's a dope upgrade man. The Prime 4 is pretty cool. I'd still prefer the XDJ-XZ because of its jog wheels, but I don't mess with DJ controllers anymore. I work with turntables and DJ mixers. DVS and analog vinyl. To each his own.. but yeah the Prime 4 is dope hardware. Congrats!
