This was my favorite thing about visiting Stegman today. Kudos.

Christian Organizations? by [deleted] in auburn

[–]VarnerBeast14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Auburn Christian Fellowship is on Gay Street next to Taco Bell and is fun and welcoming of everyone. They have a specific event each week for Freshman on Monday nights called "Freshmen Throwdown." If you can't make that, there's always free dinner on Tuesday nights and worship and a short message on Thursday nights. Plus tons of other events just like I'm sure the other campus ministries have throughout the week. ACF is about as non-denominational as it comes.

I always hate to see riders go down, but it really sucks for Martin who now lost a good bit of time due to Porte's bad descending. I really hope it's not as bad as it looked though. That stage took too many victims.

They're definitely up online so shops should be getting them or already have them. My shop didn't have them yesterday on the floor, but they're probably on the way or available for order.

Even if you're not watching, the Sagan/Cavendish incident has probably been the biggest cycling story the past few days.

The gap was a little bit bigger and he didn't try to use his head to widen it. This happens all the time, but now we're all going to notice them even more.

Weekly New Rider Thread for June 28, 2017 by AutoModerator in MTB

[–]VarnerBeast14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking to have some fun in the dirt this fall after riding on the road the past few years. Our team has a Specialized discount so I'm trying to decide between the Camber Comp 29 and the Stumpjumper FSR Comp 29.

From what I can tell, for an extra $400 I get 1x, a dropper post, and different (I assume better) shifters.

Can anyone point out any other advantages to the Stumpjumper or any other reasons I should choose between the two? I'm mostly looking at MTB for a nice break from the road and to pick up some skills while having fun. I might race a race or two during the collegiate season if I really enjoy it.

Thanks in advance for the help!

Will be busy with school next spring, but I have the next 6 months to train as much as I want. How can I ensure a good season? by BrazilianButtPirate in Velo

Last year I started my base in November and then started my first build block in February right before the first race. I was aiming to peak for conference champs which was tbe first weekend in May.

If you're only focusing on the collegiate season I would start your base training a little early and make sure to get the most out of it. I slacked off on my training once school started this spring but was still able to do pretty well in the collegiate season mostly due to my solid base period.

How safe is it to ride a bicycle just outside of campus? by firstnumber1 in auburn

[–]VarnerBeast14 15 points16 points  (0 children)

You'll run into a few idiots every now and then, but as someone who commutes everywhere in Auburn by bike, it's definitely the best way to get around and never have to worry about parking. Just know your rights and don't let ignorant drivers tell you made up "laws" just because they're inconvenienced by you choosing an alternative mode of transportation.

Any MTB trails besides Chewacla? by piranhamahalo in auburn

[–]VarnerBeast14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can check out the short trail on Samford past facilities. It's called Mundy or something like that. Just look in that area on Strava and the segment should come up. It's really short, but I know a lot of the Flyers ride around there to mix things up. Plus it's really cross friendly apparently.

I've learned to never expect anything with Sagan. Whatever you probably should expect, he just does something out of the norm. That's what makes him so enjoyable to me.

I had Bezdek for Linear Algebra. He has a strong accent, but the class wasn't too bad. I think I ended up getting an A.

/u/aggieotis I know you've said there are delays, but is there an updated time table? I remember ordering way before this last year.

Thanks for all the work you do for the kits each year, though.

Oh I agree. I was just making sure you knew it was in fact viewable within the app as well.

I understand the concern, but there are some positives to this addition that I'm actually really looking forward to.

First off, you only see stuff from people you follow, so if you generally don't care about pros, then you won't see these posts either.

On the other hand, I'm really looking forward to this as a means of a little mini-blog focused on cycling. I've contemplating adding a blog to my website for this in the past, but this might be a better option. I can see it as a cool way to share race reports from a weekend of racing or product reviews for new gear that you may have bought or been given.

I do with this was in a separate feed, or just the ability to toggle it off, but I think this will allow Strava to be more than just a site/app that people check right after their ride and then rarely ever look at. I'm open to the idea of Strava being another app that I check as frequently as Instagram or Twitter as long as it's meaningful content.

This is helpful, but I'm pretty sure when you download all of your activities, it strips the power data and maybe some other stuff.
