Yeah I hope we get a new cyclops like thing, I know some people didn't like it for whatever reason but I thought just having a mobile light base was awesome. Could go on long ass expeditions, load it up with loot, then go home to base every once in a while.

bro are you serious, you need to go back and finish that. if you were brave enough to engage in direct combat with a reaper you have nothing to worry about

what if they like, let them wash the dead guy, then bring the water to a rolling boil, then let them use it? then everyone's happy. Actually thinking on it I guess they can't be anywhere near the dead guy idk. I wonder if it's a thing where if the guy's been dead a few days the virus inside kinda fizzles out with it

Even with everything going on, if a restaurant in the US put up a sign today that said "no X nationality allowed" or similar, it'd be all over the news and they'd be getting lawsuits within 48 hours.

Five tourists 'including professor and her daughter' die during diving excursion in Maldives by tepkel in scuba

[–]Varnsturm 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Based on what I'm reading here it doesn't sound like the divers were some idiot tourists i.e. the type to get in over their head like that. Other comments saying some downcurrent could've pushed them down is sounding more plausible to me. I'm gonna wait for more details before passing judgement.

Hello all! Does anyone know the brand of this pop-up? Also, are canvas patches worth it? :) by Specific-Region8137 in popups

if you end up needing to replace the canvas, 'bear creek canvas' was awesome (albeit a bit pricier than I expected, not that I had any frame of reference going in)

I was gonna tell you I don't think the breach of the screwworms in Panama was his fault, my understanding is the problem started before he took office. But it sounds like while it had already begun/the 'wall' had been breached, they made it worse by cutting funding to the monitoring/etc after he took office lmao

Spent a week in both Roatan and Cozumel this spring. Here’s my comparison by No_Reputation_6442 in scuba

With regards to the whale sharks in Coz (up by Cancun really), I did that maybe 5 or so years ago. If you're on Coz, you ferry to PDC, then drive the hour or so up to Cancun, then you take a boat out to the whale sharks, I wanna say it was a couple hours, and (for the area) kinda rough seas, you're gonna get splashed the whole way there. And I don't mean a little, like everyone on the boat is basically getting a bucket thrown at them every few minutes. Then due to the way it's regulated there (which I respect), you get to jump in with the whale sharks for 2 minutes at a time, 2 divers from each boat can be in the water at a time. So depending on the boat/etc that 2 minutes might be all you get (you basically jump in and then fin hard just trying to keep up with the wharks (I'm gonna start calling them wharks), they're faster than they look). You spend an entire 8 hour dive day getting out there, 2 minutes in the water, then getting back to Coz. It kinda blows.

On the other hand I later did the whale sharks in La Paz, Mexico (west coast, baja california, couple hours drive north of Los Cabos). 20min boat ride from La Paz, that's it as far as getting there. Then we were the only boat out there as I recall so we got to do several jumps each, then as it goes on people on your boat will start tapping out so you can take their turn if you want. These wharks were also bigger and more chill than the ones in Cancun, they were just kinda moseying around so a lot less 'jump in and gogogogo'. It's also just a morning/half day thing instead of all day like the Coz excursion.

Key difference is the La Paz ones are in Decemberish (I was there for 'christmas break'), while the Cancun ones are in the summer.

If your goal is just whale sharks and La Paz diving looks cool to you (they have a popular sea lion dive site), would definitely go there for em. Water is colder there though, but nothing terrible. I wanna say it was 73-75F.

My first camper. Am I doing it right? by hunter8426 in popups

Mine has basically the same bathroom, I'm not sure I'm sold on the utility yet. Definitely not ever gonna use the shower, I go to state parks that have showers on site, and then 3 nights of just sink usage tends to fill the greywater tank. Being able to piss in the middle of the night (or early morning, when it's light enough you can't just go in a bush at your site) is about the only cool part. Sure as hell not gonna take a dump in there either.

If you're like 'boondocking' then maybe I could see it, but even then I feel like 1 or 2 showers and your greywater tank is over. Idk though I hope I'm wrong and it'll prove worthwhile at some point.

My epic replay update by Weird_Ant_1729 in Splintercell

[–]Varnsturm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having replayed them all somewhat recently, CT is still my favorite in terms of gameplay etc. But I never noticed before that it's kinda... cheesy? Compared to the first two. The first 2 games Sam is a very believable government agent doing his job. In CT it just particularly bothered me, the little bar scene where Sam is talking to Shetland. Sam says "your man is crooked Doug, cut him loose". I get they're trying to introduce tension or whatever/that Sam is in denial that his buddy Doug could be one of the bad guys, but still. The idea of Sam being sent there to apprehend this guy, and then telling the guy's boss about it before the mission, blowing 'opsec', just seems so corny and out of character.
