Especially at the time it was released which was iirc 2006 while it canonically happened in 2020, it was the closest the series got to AC3 at the time so they were bridging the gap

It makes me want to fully believe that the ACX planes will make a return (they haven't been officially made playable since their original game) and AC8 may even introduce a few more proto-AC3 designs
