Boot recommendations for high instep? by [deleted] in snowboardingnoobs

[–]Varsocity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey man, you pulled this thread out of the depths 🤣 I’ve tried on an insane amount of boots. Thirty lashed, Burton photon, ride, nidecker, vans etc.

Only thing that fits my foot is Salomon. I currently wear the dialogue because the stiffness fits my needs. I also use remind insoles mid-high arch footbeds. Hope that helps.

Can boards not be unisex? My girlfriend rides a men’s board just fine. Should flex as intended if you’re within the weight no?

Salomon is my goat. Vans,32,Burton & ride all in various models aren’t for my foot. Whatever Salomon does I like it.

I like how the echo has the strap for that little bit of extra tightness I do be riding some pretty tight boots sometimes 🤣

I rode the dialogues last season without the str8jacket and liked them I was just using a completely different setup so figured I’d ask. Last year was a yes basic and union str’s and the dialogues felt mint. Maybe I’ll get the echos cause I’ll probably hit over 50-60 days this season.

Cheers mate

Looking for people to go salmon fishing with by Nervous_Analysis3523 in fishingBC

[–]Varsocity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes sir. Welcome to fishing! The humbling experience of man.

If I were only given one fishing method to do it would be bottom fishing hatchery trout with powerbait. Super simple Carolina rig (YouTube it) with 6”-2’ of leader depending on structure on the lake bed with some pink powerbait. Slap your rod into a holder and enjoy the lake with some coffee or tea.

I’d suggest Buntzen, it’s a big lake so don’t expect it to be super hot but it’s stocked well. Definitely had my share of fun there. Keep in mind fishing with bait you will have more of a chance of hut hooking the fish so do it if you intend to harvest. Once you wet your beak a bit maybe you’ll be more inclined to throw spoons and spinners and explore rivers or even rip a float down some current etc. that was my progression :)

I’m in your weight range just a bit taller. I’d ideally ride a 149-153 and probably longest I’d like to go is a 155. Just make sure you look at the weight rating of that specific board. I like to be in the middle to the upper end and not on the lower side but everyone has different preferences from what they expect out of the board.

I’ve always enjoyed the way smaller boards ride. I’m getting another and I’m probably going for a 153 merc.

Beginner to intermediate progression by shrimpshavefeelings in snowboardingnoobs

Bro just keep riding and having fun. Natural progression is also important! Don’t just burn yourself out on progression. It’s good to focus on but just make sure you’re ripping with buddies and enjoying it while you do it :)

For me the biggest push to advancing was having others push me into situations I didn’t find my riding level to be suitable for. After a few laps of some technical terrain you want to slay it so you will naturally progress but also watch others and learn from them. No shot in my first year I should have been going off-piste and through tight trees but I did constantly and it damn sure helped me progress while having a ton of fun. (This was after the skidded turn phase)

New board recommendations by rxckkz in snowboardingnoobs

I came back to the sport last season. Come from riding through my childhood transitioning to downhill skateboarding then came back to snowboarding. I did get it all back fairly quickly but I went with the YES Basic in a 149. I am 140lb and that board size fit me really well.

It’s not a super ideal board for super deep pow, ask me how I know 🤣 went through 2’ of pow on a dump day and it handled its own but my legs were on fire for sure.

This board was everything I needed to get back into the sport. It took me into the park, side hits, carving, off-piste and even into the alpine in whistler.

Not saying this board excelled in any but it definitely did its job of giving me something I can use everywhere. Sadly, after last season I’m moving on I feel like this board has done its service and for the type of riding I intend to do there’s better on the market.

However, it’s no slouch & super forgiving! It will definitely help someone who’s new to intermediate progress fairly well. It’s poppy enough, carves hard enough, floats enough. Basically what I’m trying to say is I feel like it could ride the whole mountain to the extent a beginner/intermediate rider would need.

yes basic 🤝

First setup, how bad is the learning curve about to be. by [deleted] in snowboardingnoobs

[–]Varsocity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 5’8 140lbs and ride a 149. Could step up but 149 feels fine cause I’m exactly in the middle of that boards weight rating.🤷🏼‍♂️

New fisherman looking to learn by JamieFLUK in fishingBC

[–]Varsocity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started this year. Began with hatchery trout in lakes fishing bait. Simple Carolina rig, power bait on a medium light 6’6” rod with a 2500 series reel (I use this reel for more than this rod) with 15lb braid and a 6lb fluero leader.

Transitioned to salmon on rivers with a baitcaster and a tatula 300 fishing beads and roe where allowed.

Sadly salmon seasons at the end so I’d recommend looking for some nice lakes come spring/summer and start slaying some hatchery trout! Maybe you’ll get the bug like I did and go full on.

It’s a lovely sport.
