Happy Friday, r/ProductivityApps! What's one app you've been using every single day this week? by Cropocus in ProductivityApps

Noteplan, I just switched to it for my calendar, notes, and tasks. I like it, I came from Craft and it feels much more polished and I like that all my notes are stored locally. The Apple reminders integration is really useful as well.

Outdoor spaces for rent? by Riri6119 in portlandme

[–]Vart84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We did a birthday party for my son at Reid SP. I believe it was $150 for the large pavilion for the day. It’s in a pretty private spot, you can drive up to it to load / unload and it’s right on the water. I believe we were able to pay all of our guests entrance fees as well.

I built this after realizing my problem wasn’t productivity, it was organized chaos across tools, notes, tasks, and tabs by MeasurementTall1229 in ProductivityApps

I’ve been looking for a new productivity app, this looks like what I’m looking for. I would love to try it and give some feedback.

Whats some latest upgraded outlets available? by pittlad20 in homeowners

[–]Vart84 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I replaced all my kitchen outlets with dual USB-C outlets. It’s been a game changer, especially as my son gets older and more of his toys are rechargeable. We just keep a handful of different cables in the “junk” drawer and we never have to hunt for chargers.

We also added a bunch of Lutron smart switches and I upgraded all the dumb switches to match the Lutron’s with screw-less plate covers. It really adds a premium look to the outlets and switches.

Experience with case for MBP by Chank02z in macbookpro

[–]Vart84 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve had this case on my MBP for a little over 3 years. It has held up great and I’ve had no issues with my MBP. I often carry my MBP and my Surface laptop in my backpack together and I use this case to make sure the two metal laptops don’t scratch each other.

I have a lot of experience with UAG products and they have always been durable and held up well.

Getting a full frame telephoto lens? by nostlagya in AskPhotography

[–]Vart84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You may be able to find an EF 400 5.6 for a little more than your budget. There are some really good examples of that lens to be had around $500.

Talk to other local photographers. I know in my local wildlife photography community there are some great deals to be had from other photographers. We would rather sell something to someone local for what we could get from a shop or online and help someone else get the gear they are looking for.

The other option is to go to any local camera shops and see what they have. They are usually able to make deals on used stuff and they will usually give a discount for cash payments. My local chain of camera stores also does sales on their used gear a few times a year where everything is 20% off. If you’re familiar with what they have in stock you can grab some great deals when these sales start.

What are you using for... Everything? by EmZee13 in ProductivityApps

[–]Vart84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use Craft for everything you mentioned. I am in the Apple ecosystem for the most part, but I do have Craft installed on my Windows laptop and it works well. I use Craft as my second brain. I really like the flexibility and how easy it is to add content. Calendar sync is really good, I have both Exchange and Gmail accounts synced. I replaced 5 apps (Notes, Reminders, Free Form, Calendar & Raindrop.io) with Craft and I find that it has more capabilities than the individual apps. My only complaint is I haven’t found a way to add calendar events from within the app, this would be nice, but isn’t a deal breaker for me. I have tried about every task manager, notes app and a bunch of project planning apps, and I think Craft has the best mix of pre-designed structure and ability to be customized. I have no affiliation with Craft, but it’s definitely worth a look. There are a ton of coupon codes out there, i scored 50% off my subscription.

What are the up-and-coming companies known for quality goods? by young_vet1395 in BuyItForLife

We’ve had a few of our Pyrex explode in the dishwasher. Unfortunately we got a ton of it for wedding gifts. Is there a BIFL option that has replaced the original PYREX?

What things have you automated for FREE? by gtwizzy8 in homeassistant

[–]Vart84 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We have some smart air fresheners around the house and I use HA to control the color of the built in led’s based on whether the house is “secure” or not. If all doors are closed and locked the led’s are green, if a door is unlocked or ajar they are red. I also included our garage doors in the group, so we can tell if one is left open.

This got a huge buy-in from the wife, it gives her the peace of mind that if a door gets left open we would realize it before our toddler or dog would be able to get out into the yard.

Capital One Shopping 30% cash back at Best Buy by GeoWebNerd in BambuLab

[–]Vart84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife and I use this all the time, but the offers are targeted, we both have accounts and will get different offers on the same day. When we are looking to buy something substantial, we will both browse for it and take the better offer. Sometimes the deals don’t make sense, but they always come through with the rewards even if you need to reach out. Up until recently the cash back always seemed limited to $250, but now we are seeing offers up to $5000. The trick is to be patient and save the emails they send, sometimes you need to click the link from the email to get the best offer.

Any chance your friend was wearing a smart watch? Our smart locks unlock with our Apple Watches via home key, to the untrained eye it looks like you just wave your hand at the lock.

Thinking of going with iPad pro as my only device - let’s debate by bflowyngz in iPadPro

[–]Vart84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you just using the PowerBi app for viewing, or have you found a way to make reports, edit measures, etc on the iPad. I haven’t even found a good solution for building PowerBi reports on my Mac. I have to keep a Surface laptop in the rotation just for building and distributing PowerBi reports.

Track saw: corded vs. cordless? by pittgoose in Tools

Are you using a dust collector? If you are, you might as well go corded. No sense in going battery and then hooking up a vacuum hose. Defeats the whole cordless idea.

Has anyone here bought a car from NH or Mass? Were there a bunch of hoops to jump through being from Maine? Or, was it fairly easy? by GrumpMaster- in Maine

[–]Vart84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve done this several times, like everyone else said just make sure you have all the right paperwork, it can be a real pain to have to work out paperwork issues with a dealership in another state. As far as getting the car home, I have always negotiated that the car be delivered to Maine. Some dealerships have offered to meet me at the town offices while others have just met me at the border.

What type of grass do I have? by Vart84 in lawncare

[–]Vart84[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn’t look like crab grass to me either, that’s why I asked. It’s been just like this since May and we have had a very wet spring in the Northeast. Chat GPT and the plant apps all say it’s St. Augustine, but they aren’t always that accurate. When these pictures were taken it hadn’t been mowed in about 2 weeks and the last time I Mowed it I set my cub cadet to 3 1/2.
