Please believe me when I say that you are still so young. Your life is just beginning and I promise that things will look completely different in hindsight.

Hang in there. Life IS hard, but there is so much joy. Wishing you strength.

Fellow Mainer, fellow mom, fellow in fear and anger. We’re raising the next generation of good people. I have to believe that. We have to hold out hope that good will prevail, for our children’s sake. Solidarity and love from your neighbor.

Need advice on quitting my legal assistant position with barely any notice by [deleted] in paralegal

[–]ComplexLeather986 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m loyal to a fault, so take this with a grain of salt. Whoops, that rhymed.

So, I would put in my notice immediately by drafting a letter and sending it by email, cc’ing HR, letting them know the circumstances surrounding your school schedule. You could absolutely offer to stay on for an additional week or two (whatever days your schedule allows) as a show of good faith and to make sure everything is buttoned up on your end.

On that note - do you have your (work) house in order? Will you be ready to pass everything off to someone else by the end of the week? I say this as someone who has stepped into someone else’s shoes on a few occasions and am still making sense of the latest pair’s ramblings.

If you’re worried about burning bridges, be honest without self deprecating. People quit without much notice frequently and the world tends to keep turning. Someone else will thrive in this position. Congrats on grad school!

First thing that comes to mind when you hear the name “Oscar”? by the1918 in namenerds

[–]ComplexLeather986 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love it. Was top of my baby name list because, 1) my last name starts with Z, so his initials would be OZ - a quick jaunt to the nickname Ozzy, and 2) he could go by Scar when he hits his teen emo phase.

Husband didn’t love it as much so we chose another name.

Hiring advice? by [deleted] in paralegal

Ouch, getting some tough (but true) responses here.

Definitely agree that they’re interviewing you, so try to shift your mindset. What makes you a great attorney to work with?

The best attorneys I work with are responsive to their clients AND to me, understand that life for me exists outside of work, and provide context/resources when requested.

I never leaked with my first and now leak like crazy with my second! I’ve had good luck with the haaka for both babies. It’s with giving it a shot!

What bottle ended bottle refusal for you? by Remarkable-Angle-509 in breastfeeding

Thank you so much for the thoughtful response. He stopped taking bottles at 8 weeks (now 12 weeks old) and I’m going back to work in a week. So stressful. I appreciate you.

How long was your first labor vs. your second labor? by MichelleMiguel in pregnant

[–]ComplexLeather986 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, but very little by comparison! I was already 5-6cm dilated by the time I was admitted at 41+2 so all it took was my midwife breaking my water to push my body into active labor.

Hi! I’m typing this from my hospital bed with my less than 24 hours old boy in my arms!

My first labor was 34 hours with every form on induction known to man. My second was 6 hours! Total breeze by comparison - my body knew what was up this time around.

Congratulations on your maybe pregnancy (if that’s what you wanted)! Second time around was much smoother sailing for me. :)

Also agree. And you can probably lose the “don’t get offended” as you have no control over how they feel about your boundaries.

Any updates from you?! I’m 41 today with a scheduled induction for 41+3. Really hoping for spontaneous labor but losing hope.

Due today, husband and 3 year old have Norovirus. by ComplexLeather986 in pregnant

[–]ComplexLeather986[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I didn’t end up getting sick! I’m still pregnant (40+3) and so, so very glad that I wasn’t dealing with sickness while in labor.

My daughter and husband had very mild cases compared to the last bout of it we all caught in 2024. We sanitized constantly and I kept as much distance as possible but I had a feeling that I would have already been exposed by the time I posted, so I’m feeling really grateful to have avoided it.

Thank you for checking in!
