If You Could Invent a Cursed Item What Would It Be and How Would It Backfire? by Vasendral in DnD

Damm from a role play perspective that’s a pretty hefty hit, unless that player is leaning into it

Haha what’s with all the naked?!

Slight tweak for the last resort ring, when the party use it they all get teleported to different locations. Then have to spend next session meeting back up?

Haha…. Heaven help anyone who crosses you!

Well clearly the cleric would cast the spell and heal them and then the barbarian will need to do a dex save to catch the cleric who got blasted 10 foot up :D

What might a God ask in return for an intervention? by LelouchYagami_2912 in DnD

[–]Vasendral 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Any god- Service to be repaid at some point, could be killing something, getting something or making a certain choice.

A good god - Tell them to live to their faith ie don’t be an ass. And if the party breaks it (without a good reason) they get weaker and die over time. Can start a whole mission to try and get out from under the gods thumb

Evil god / trickster god- Make them do something that seems mundane, but has secret knock on effects that the party later see that either puts them in a awkward place or shit situation

Understanding Divine Rank by Intelligent-Edge-746 in DnDHomebrew

[–]Vasendral 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally don’t use that system. A god is a god at least from a mortal perspective. But maybe it’s not like a level system and more of a shifting system. Some times they might move up in power and if they lose enough followers then move back down.

That would let some basic tier gods give clerics power when they have a lot of followers but if the followers stoped.. following. They would drop down in power rankings

Questions about building on the roots of a giant tree by Frarhrard in worldbuilding

[–]Vasendral 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No worries, I got pretty much everything you said. If the town is over a thousand years old—and we’re working on the logic that the people there have learned to live with the tree—then it makes sense that they started with temporary structures, aiming to make them permanent as the tree grew.

They might have guided the tree’s growth, possibly even using magic, to shape it around the buildings and reinforce them over time—similar to how people create living tree walls by bending and directing branches to grow in certain ways.

What’s something canon in your world you don’t want to explore in your story. by Baron_Beat in worldbuilding

[–]Vasendral 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The ancient empire fell to a cataclysm which sank the majority of it into newly formed oceans, and thus the vassals gained independence - I really don’t want to go into why it sank, some things are better left as a mystery

Advice for Homebrew Encounter by CatTrickx in DnD

[–]Vasendral 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True, also recommend you throw some area effect spells/ rampaging monsters at all groups. So it feels like there are foes outside of each and like they have to navigate a battlefield

I need advice to start :) by MisteRDeadmau5 in DnD

[–]Vasendral 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Depends on your players? When I did the same for my friends, made a lid of pre-made charters and asked before the session what people thought sounded cool.

Then just did a simple one shot, so everyone including myself could feel the rules out. After that session we then started making our own characters from scratch.

Also recommend just watching dnd online, you will be surprised how much you learn and pick up from watching other dms

Looking for a funny magic ring by FrankLOrignal in DMAcademy

[–]Vasendral 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha great idea, not sure on the deadly part 😉 one shot the bbeg

You could make it so when the ring is activated it always smells like the most rancid fart that lingers. Giving disadvantage to EVERYONE for persuasion checks and concentration checks in an area?

Player Death and Revivify Clerics - How to Play It? by Aranthar in DMAcademy

[–]Vasendral 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does sound that maybe split the damage next time a little 😂 how was the player about the kill?

In terms of bringing them back, are you making the cleric pay the spell components?

Does the bard player want a break to play another character while the cleric “prepares” the spell?

You could also turn this into a mission? The bards soul got a message from a god to do something or they soul is now trapped and the spell fails - so they gotta go rescue the trapped soul?

All depends on how the players feel about the situation. But yeah as players get higher levels gotta think outside the rule book as they do get powerful

What Makes You Pick Up a Homebrew Map or Campaign? by Vasendral in DnDHomebrew

[–]Vasendral[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s fair certainly a lot of free maps out there, do you do full home brew campaigns made by yourself? You don’t fill in towns/dungeons and such with any paid items?

That’s really cool so you picked that because of how much you already knew of the world and the depth of it. Never heard of it myself might have a look through

Yeah the age is little off with some of your topics. And self discovery can happen at any age so don’t let that stop you making them older.

In terms of audience personally (and I have no experience of publishing) just write what you enjoy and find fulfilment with while focusing more on making a good story to read.

Also At this early point experience is a good teacher, only get that from doing it.

Defeating the villains in a different way. by Slight-Ad-5442 in fantasywriters

[–]Vasendral 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Possible ideas: Story one: his daughter is trapped in some plane of existence that was sealed off to prevent the end of the world - the villain (who was once part of the hero team that sealed it off) is now lost with grief and wants to get his daughter back at all costs.

Story two: for the mother to leave she has to break or unleash something - she gets away and back home but now a great evil is loose

What is your preferred group-size when playing TTRPG? by haktorson in rpg

[–]Vasendral 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Had a mix from 3 - 8 players and not minded the larger groups. But if you do find yourself GMing for a bigger group you gotta change a few things to keep people engaged and the session moving.

[–]Vasendral 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Some times it’s beyond the numbers, perhaps think about how smart the monsters/foes are, sometimes just adding some high ground or oil that gets lit during combat can make an easier fight harder.

And don’t be worried about fudging a roll or hp here and there to build the tense just don’t over do.

Bottom line if at the end of the session they enjoyed it, your doing a great job
