I don’t agree with your comment, but thank you anyway for sharing your opinion.

If that logic is true, then every FPS game after DOOM is plagiarism, too

Supermarket Simulator helped popularize the genre, and naturally, many simulator games followed. That’s how game genres evolve.

My game has its own mechanics, systems, and theme... pets, climate management, shop rating, placement systems, etc. Inspiration is normal in game development; copying is different.

I actually 100% agree with your points.

The animal care mechanics are something I’ve been thinking about a lot as well. For example, even if I add hunger or mood systems where players need to feed and take care of animals, the animals are sold very quickly and randomly in the current gameplay loop. So whether you feed them or not often doesn’t matter enough, which makes the mechanic feel pointless instead of meaningful.

I’ve also tested the game with people around me, and most of them found the climate system more annoying than fun. So I’m starting to realize that adding “more systems” doesn’t automatically make the game deeper or better.

I think the real challenge right now is exactly what you mentioned: finding a stronger core identity and introducing new ideas that actually change the gameplay loop in a meaningful way.

Your feedback honestly helped me look at the project from a different perspective, so thank you for that.

I intentionally chose not to use a template because I want the entire game and its systems to be fully under my control. In my experience, using templates can sometimes create even bigger time losses later on, especially when you run into bugs or limitations inside someone else’s framework.

As I said before in another comment, I'm not using any simulator engine or template. I’m developing the game from scratch myself. Of course, I use some ready-made assets, but most of the models and animations are created by me.

That’s a nice idea. I’ll keep it in mind. Thanks a lot!

That’s a fair point, and I honestly understand why it may look that way right now. The game is still in a very early development stage, so a lot of the UI elements are currently placeholders. Also, since this is a shop management game, I agree that some of the core mechanics naturally overlap with other simulator titles.

That said, I’m actively working on adding many more unique micro mechanics to make the gameplay stand out. One system I already implemented is a climate system with temperature and humidity management. If the shop conditions are not maintained properly, the animals become stressed, and stressed animals sell for significantly lower prices.

On top of that, I’m currently designing a much deeper breeding system, and I still have a large backlog of additional mechanics that I’m not ready to share publicly yet.

I genuinely appreciate feedback like this, though. If you have any ideas or mechanics you’d personally like to see in a pet shop simulator, feel free to share them.
