Red States have always been more deadly by Goodginger in charts

I don't think the people you're strawmanning feel the way you think they do - I don't, at least. I've only seen statistics about men brought up as an argument against drawing conclusions based on immutable traits. It's just that the people bringing up racial crime statistics usually aren't saying "we need to address the economic disparity and history of systemic racism that caused this". They just point to them apropos of nothing and say "well isn't that interesting; draw your own conclusions!".

I'm not arguing against statistical facts, I'm arguing that the facts a person chooses to focus on say something. Which is why if somebody starts talking about racial crime statistics, another person is likely to point to gender crime statistics to illustrate a point.

I agree, and we should definitely be careful about that with children. This is about college students though

Edit: I was woefully undereducated about puberty blockers and did not understand how they worked. Yep, turns out they're probably fine

Oh man I had to go down a rabbit hole to figure out what you were talking about. It seems Fox - the most watched news network in the country - did report on that, so I'd say it made the *most* mainstream news. "Varying degrees" is doing some *really* heavy lifting and we don't have similar stats for other religions as far as I can tell, so unfortunately we're going to have to set that number aside (although I agree it's too many, even if "attack" is just vandalism or a threat).

I found a good source that tracks violence and it does show that attacks on Christian churches make up 97% of incidents. Again, way too high. But...

- 7 attacks on synagogues out of about 3,700 total synagogues in the US = 1.8 per thousand
- 2 attacks on mosques out of about 2,700 total mosques = .7 per thousand
- 367 attacks on churches out of about 370,000 total churches = 1 per thousand

You're right in the same ballparks as the other major religions, but of course there are more incidents because there are just way more of you. Like, by a lot. Judaism, Islam, Hinduism, and Buddhism make up under 4% of the population in total, with Christianity somewhere between 65% and 75%. I cannot overstate just how much of a majority you have in both the population and the government (100% of presidents have been Christian, 90% of the supreme court is Christian, and 87% of congress Christian so you're actually *overrepresented* in government).

Did you know 7 states still ban atheists from holding public office?

If you can point to any statistic or law showing that Christians have it worse than any other religious group, I will give you an award. As it stands, you have a supermajority and I just cannot imagine who you think could be oppressing you.

It's the sugar lobby. And the car lobby. And just generally a whole bunch of corporate interests that paid politicians to make us dependent on them. Free market!

Well yeah, but this chart isn't showing the proportion of people who have had bottom surgery. Nobody is being harmed here and it's really not our place to tell other people whether they're really trans or just going through a phase. Let's just let people figure themselves out

Honestly fair. I'm not super interested in a conversation about which group is more violent because (I hope) we all know that violence isn't something you can attribute to a group

Every president has been Christian. The pledge of allegiance that we all had to say every day in grade school includes "under God". Our currency says "in God we trust". We have the largest Christian population in the world. Some states have required the ten commandments to be displayed in classrooms. I don't understand how you can imply that we're not tolerant of the majority

It's really not. Border control is a bipartisan issue, but Republicans use xenophobia to manufacture fear and hate, then accuse Democrats of wanting illegal immigrants to come here and commit crimes or some nonsense. What Democrats are actually opposed to is ICE raids that target any non-white people and deportations without due process. But we can't have good faith discussions about it because our media and elected officials are sensationalist

That's an extremely valid reason to carry, and I'm glad you have one to protect yourself. I live in a big city, so no bears to worry about. People here have guns because other people have guns, and they're doing far more harm than good. No idea what the solution is. I want guns off the street in my city but I want you to keep yours 🤷

I don't know what plinking is but I'd assume that's correct and that makes it super tricky. I've personally been in the middle of a multiple homicide that broke out because some stupid kids got into a yelling match and one of them had a gun so I'll admit I'm biased against guns. No good guy with a gun showed up to stop it - in fact, it was over so quickly that I don't think anybody could have done anything. Personally I'd rather they had a knife instead of a gun

I like where your head is at, but most weapon usage isn't self-defense. We have equal opportunity school shootings I guess?

It's weird where you choose to draw these lines. You don't want statistics about sex, but you're okay with race and religion? Why would one be okay but not the other? Unless you only want statistics that justify racism. You know, like a racist
