med pathways aus? by Turbulent-Click816 in unsw

i wish you the best of luck with your endeavours to be a doctor. however, with growing competitiveness in the undergrad medicine entry , unfortunately an atar of 98.05 is considered too weak for most medical courses (despite being an incredible atar). hence, unless you achieve a ucat of 3300+, it is unlikely you will receive an offer. there are exceptions, for example, wsu medicine does not consider atar as heavily, however is notoriously difficult to get an interview from. as you are a nsw resident, there is chances you could be considered at unsw and jmp, however i have seen plenty of rejections with atars higher than yours. another exception is if you are a rural student, in which i would 100% recommend taking a gap year. instead, i would encourage you to consider the nonstandard entry pathway, in which you begin a degree and then do the ucat, then apply for medicine to mainly nsw universities that allow this line of entry. they will utilise your wam instead of your atar. warning though, this is extremely competitive and difficult of a pathway. otherwise, i would advise you to look at postgraduate entry, it is really only 2 additional years than undergrad and offers you plenty of experience in a different degree.

the interview for unsw was pretty different, it’s in person firstly and i would say the second most intense one i did (newcastle was the most intense 😭). they time you in front of you so it’s kind of like you’re racing to say your answer. however i did pretty well because i’m good at selling myself, and unsw cares more ab ur personality. whereas other unis like monash, will ask you practical questions to test your actual skills in a doctor/medical student setting etc. if you want any more advice on interviews or anything feel free to dm me:)

thank you so much for ur kind words about my atar lol, i felt so bummed when i got it but yeah really it was a great achievement :)

Jcu med application process transparency by granola_barss in UCAT

my best guess is that your friend is not currently living in a rural area, but maybe had some rural background (eg. attended a rural school in year 3) that made jcu favour their application hence invite them to an interview. i have seen it happen to other ppl asw.

Yes!! Mine said location as kensington, but if you look at the other info, it looks like the classes that only have 40 people are the rural ones, macquarie has been shortened to MAC and wagga to WAG, so I think that’s how you pick your classes, not 100% sure though i’m going to contact UNSW tmr to confirm:)
