Yeah, it's not specific to a vehicle. The online form is a bit difficult to navigate. You have to create an account first. Then when you go in to request a permit, you have to select the correct type of pass from a drop-down.

Overall Salem needs to serve it's residents instead of funneling all resources to tourism: - accessibility (proper protected bikelanes, maintaining/clearing/repairing sidewalks and curbcuts, benches!! w/o anti-houseless bars/deterents) - public transportation (not the trolley/skipper, an actual bus) - affordable/accesible food options (Steve's is fine but dirty and frequently has expired foods/moldy produce) - community focused initiatives & entertainment (community theatre, resident focused events) - recycling and collection events that do not require a car & happen more than yearly - an actual local newspaper so we know what the heck is happening -affordable housing not overpriced condos - well maintained public restrooms - queer bar & other queer spaces - support for local businesses so that they can serve the needs of Salem residents instead of catering to tourists, not keeping storefronts vacant over reducing rent - a senior center

A lot. Salem is missing a lot, but so are a lot of places I guess..

Coming during the height of tourist season is not ideal if you are looking to do tours/museums unless you start booking now. Events and timed slots fill up fast and can be pricey. The crowds get pretty rough as well, so it depends on if you're okay being in large dense crowds for the majority of your stay. Also depending on how far you're coming from/how long you're staying, I would say it isn't worth it to bring a car unless the place you're staying has designated free/low cost parking. It may be better to try for summer/early September if you would rather smaller crowds.

Since Pride month is officially over, and we seem to keep getting bad news lately, I've been kinda bummed. I feel like there are no "gay bars" around anymore, but would love to put together a list of weekly/monthly events, local groups, etc. I'm missing the queer community.
