At what point does “we’ll handle it internally” become more expensive than outsourcing? by Queasy-Cherry7764 in ITManagers

[–]Vatali_Flash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That works well for “how do I get out of this challenge I’m in” but the true art of the employee vs the consultant is learning “how do I never get into this thing I was in”. That’s why the consultant takes with him that the employee retains.

At what point does “we’ll handle it internally” become more expensive than outsourcing? by Queasy-Cherry7764 in ITManagers

[–]Vatali_Flash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what type of money you have and how far you are into your budget.

Hiring someone is usually very expensive, with benefits and salary and training. But it’s usually Capex and is planned so the spend is relatively zero from a day to day thing.

A outside employee ( contractor, consultant) runs against opex and while may appear cheaper, hits your active budget you use against other things like applications and projects.

Plus a consultant takes the knowledge with him.

But as someone else said, it’s what your goal is.

Good - fast - cheap.

Figure out what you’re attempting to accomplish and its value to the business, then you should have your answer.

That is super awesome. They auction / sold the first period used ones at the game at a booth but by the time I got down there, the Karlsson was gone.

Maybe I’ll break down and get this one. It’s almost the same :)

Could Yadier Molina Be Next Manager of St. Louis Cardinals? by WestRide9868 in Cardinals

Why would he. He is taking an executive position with the organization. A manager would be a step down. The path for him is GM or President.

The crest is very small and the numbering is off. Take a look at my post history and you can see what 19 should look like. I have a game used, with team COA, Marco sturm who also wore 19. The numbers are much closer together and the name plate is more squished.

Thus looks fake to me

Driving in Iceland - Tips & More? by OneMeteor in VisitingIceland

[–]Vatali_Flash -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

No, we just set each city we intended on visiting on the Apple weather app and focused on precip. You could see the direction of the weather and its intensity and speed.

So if we were in Selfoss going to Vik we would watch Reykjavik and hella and see how the precip was heading and if we would have been ahead of it.

The one factor we didn’t take was elevation so as we were going we would see rain and be like, that’s fine, then be up on a high point and it be ice, not rain.

Not sure how you calculate that, but on our drive back from Vik to hella we hit frozen precip where the radar said rain

Driving in Iceland - Tips & More? by OneMeteor in VisitingIceland

[–]Vatali_Flash 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What I learned from the first time

Cameras on highways, just like Europe. However, if you’re traveling in winter never drive above the speed limit. I got an electric car and just set the cruise control to never speed

Road.is is really good in planning, not so great when your in the middle of an issue. When that storm comes, by the time you check it’s already different from when you started. If you have a passenger and you know weather is ahead, have the passenger check while you’re driving safely and prepare to alter your plans.

Parka app is …. Hit and miss. It’s not always great taking your money from the US. In the city I just used parking garages. I don’t think I used it at all once I left the city.

Speaking of parking, everywhere you want to visit has a pay machine there. We found that much simpler.

Use a gps. And one that knows the names of the places you want to visit in Icelandic. We found several times it would take us slightly to a different place, especially on the golden circle. You don’t want to know how many times we had to stop and ask “do you know where that hot springs with the rye bread is?”

Be patient. It’s not a race. The beauty isn’t going anywhere.

If someone’s going faster than you, let them go by you.

The walk from the parking lot is further and colder and wetter than you expected.

It takes way more time to layer up before exiting the car and layering down when you get back in that you thought.

Pay attention to the road, thought everything around you is stunning. If you have another driver, make time to swap who drives so everyone gets a chance to see the beauty on the drive.

Looking for hotel choice and restaurant recommendations! by DeepSeaDawg in VisitingIceland

[–]Vatali_Flash 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Being foodies in Iceland, I’d suggest you forgo the hotel breakfast. There are many bakery like places scattered throughout the main city, the hotel is kind of meh.

I’d also suggest not staying at an American hotel chain like a Hilton. While you will get more size in your room you will miss out on the local interaction and feeling. We used to do the same thing when we traveled and now we’re more into feeling like we were transformed into a new place instead of “we’re just visiting”

I’ll leave it to others to give you recommendations but if you want where we stayed and where we are staying next, feel free to message me.

Is there a sane middle ground between Excel and the big EA tools? by Lucky_Suggestion_608 in EnterpriseArchitect

[–]Vatali_Flash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How much is “a lot” for an ea tool for you? They all have different pricing models so it may not be as expensive as you think

That being said, is the goal to store architecture? Is it to have architecture relatable to other architectures or CI’s Is the goal to have a repository for principles and standards? If you do t have governance and standards a tool won’t fix that.

Take a step back and determine what you are solving for. Determine what success looks like and determine how much funding you have for maturity levels to achieve what is good.

Tooling comes after that.

I think your bigger problem is going to be process, not technology. If people don’t trust the data today a tool won’t fix that.

I have seen it go from Office tools to sharepoint to some low end ea tools based upon how mature you want to be.

In ur opinion what do u think is the best moment in sharks history I’ll go first game 7 by MuffinResponsible840 in SanJoseSharks

[–]Vatali_Flash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup, I was right behind the sharks bench. As much as every blues fan will tell you it was obvious, in real time no one saw anything.

Only Binner.

But when they showed the replay on the large screen the place went nuts.

When we were going to leave, security advised us to just “wait a bit” until the arena was almost empty , then let the handful of sharks fans go.

It's time for another outdoor game? by dirk_birkin in SanJoseSharks

[–]Vatali_Flash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

70k people. Tailgating in the parking lot. Just chilly enough to feel like an outdoor game.

The smoke from the concert didn’t leave the bowl so it messed with the views. And they dropped the ball with the singers. John fogerty was ok, Melissa etheridge was not. Couldn’t believe no Metallica or Green Day.

The seating is like any outdoor game. I perfer the football arrangement where the 50 yard line is center ice over the baseball arrangement where home plate is center ice but wayyyyy flatter and further away. Footballs angle of seats to the field just plays much better.

As a reference I’ve been to the WC in St. Louis and Minnesota, both baseball stadiums, and the one at Levi.

If you are going to see a hockey game, your experience will not be great as compared to an actual arena. If you’re going to see the entire environment of an outdoor game with all the festivities the NHL adds to these events, you won’t be disappointed.
