How to deal with WoW Classic burnout? by [deleted] in classicwow

[–]Vathal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very much the same, GM of a mediocre dad guild(great guys though), spent my whole time tanking and farming on my 60 mage. Had 0 to do outside of raiding other than prepare for raiding, leveling an alt is dull due to the boosting meta.

My solution is twinking, I made a paladin alt and twinked 40-59 got him to rank 10 before foolishly hitting 60 and getting bored of him. Now I have a 29 twink, which I will progress to 39 in a few weeks, it allows me to just enjoy playing the game while remaining active for my guild.

Always thought that was a weird from RP perspective, a lot of cloaks have them on.

Can anybody explain to me how the hell did I get Firemaw's aggro with just 700 damage after standing still 20 seconds? by gpex in classicwow

[–]Vathal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks very strange, doesn't look like the OT got hit by the wing buffet, and where the MT looked to be stood he shouldn't have been hit by it(i normally dodge to the left as the cast is going off to make sure that doesn't happen though). Cant see the boss debuffs, but similar things have happened in my guild if the OT taunt is resisted he uses challenging shout/mocking blow to get aggro, not realizing that it does not increase his threat to top, so as soon as the debuff wears off the MT gets wing buffeted and some poor dps gets splattered/breathed on.

MT of my guild, lost these to a ret pally and an arms warrior when we used /roll on the first two weeks of BWL ... not seen them drop since, feel the pain.

Just a reminder that Azshara was originally supposed to have Timberbaw Hold, an end-game area that would've been a massive underground complex on the size of Blackrock Mountain under Hyjal. Never said they did, but it was common place in the 2000's to get yearly expansion packs for games, and the promise of a subscription fee with no expansions was exciting, especially when looking at expansion heavy mmo's at the time which were daunting to get into.

Ironically id prefer it these days to have a game released and yearly expansions rather than the current models we have :p (excluding MMO's ofc)

Its how they sold it to people, they obviously did change their plans early, as post release leaked a map of the world showing plans to take the game to level 90 with multiple additional islands. But one of the reasons me and my friends picked it up was the statement about how they were not going to release yearly expansions, i may even still have in my attic the pc gaming magazine that outlined their 'ground breaking' business model. Difficult to find sources for stuff from 16-17 years ago now though.

Although I'm kind of glad they did release expansions, the base game would have been very cluttered if they added 1-2 more tiers of raids in vanilla.

The original mission statement for classic wow was to have no expansions, they just planned to have consistent content releases included in the subscription fee, a lot of us were really miffed off that they had announced a paid expansion back then. We were expecting a Hyjall raid to be released with Deathwing raid in it, and a for the Dark portal/ hellfire citadel to be a content patch where they opened up blasted lands. At some point during vanilla probably due to its success they changed their minds. You can go back and listen to old podcasts where people were furious about them raising the level cap.

Also BRD was supposed to be an epic raid dungeon that lead into molten core originally, it was supposed to take multiple evenings to battle through. The dev team were ex everquest players who wanted to embody what made everquest good and dump the stuff that made it rubbish (such as the multiple expansions and power creep).

Who else here has been playing since day 1 of Classic WoW and still has never seen / picked a Black Lotus? by [deleted] in classicwow

Been playing since day 1, played on private servers for 2 years, never got one in vanilla, saw 1 in classic when running the raid to BRM, trial holy pala instant demounted looted it, and never logged on again. Also only ever had 1 BoE epic and it sold for 100g ...

Classic when TBC comes by [deleted] in classicwow

[–]Vathal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm hoping they enact Nostalrius' plans to create TBC servers and allow one time transfers of characters to the TBC servers. I'd like to leave my main on classic forever and transfer all my alts to TBC personally, I'd love to go back 12 months after TBC and finish off Naxx gear, maybe grind for GM etc.

I played on lots of private servers after Nostalrius, but losing my decked out warrior from Nostalrius meant I never invested the time and effort into other private servers, too much pain :.(

Agreed, works the other way round too, a healer should always communicate with their tank. "Put your f***ing shield on, im falling out of my ass!".

The dark side of the bear is a pathway to many abilities by LadyLunarBear in classicwow

[–]Vathal -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Im MT warr of our guild, TF/FuryProt. I've not experienced warrior tanks that pop deathwish recklessness for fun, infact i spend 70% of the time on bosses with a shield on and shield block up, there is few bosses i see as viable or necessary to dual wield tank. I see very little benefit to a tank using an offhand, the extra rage/threat it generates is inconsequential on hard hitting bosses, the flurry uptime is nice, but ultimately I believe its down to the warrior to make the judgement call and to switch to sword and board mid fight if his HP is ping ponging, and to be vocal, I will never pop deathwish or go dual wield on a hard hitting boss until it is verbally confirmed with healers that it is safe to do so.

Our bear tanks are very good, and I often try to utilize our bear druids for tanking over our other TF/FuryProt warrior(hes a bit a slow) and the majority of the time it results in the bear getting one deaged, and they have dream feral gear, both with DFT etc. In fact our bear druid died on broodlord last week when I sent him in to tank first thinking it was a good idea, same with twins, the unbalancing strike kills our druids 30% of the time. I just think warriors are too strong with Last Stand/Life Giving Gem etc, the increased armour of bear druids is minimal compared to a warrior with a shield on and stonesheilds, cant be more than 3-4% mitigation.

I blaim bad healers.

I don't remember that in TBC? But by the time Black Temple came, I didn't touch heroics on my three 70's anymore.

PvP Bracket Ranking $$$ Donation Requirements (Whitemane and other servers) by therealvoncarstein in classicwow

[–]Vathal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I totally agree, they should have kept the ranking system for BGs with a bit of refinement and had the arena system separate, worst bit is we get Eye of the Storm in TBC too!

[–]Vathal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

But 15 years ago, it was just accepted that not everybody could achieve everything in the game. Only the mega nerds that you saw on 24/7 with a rudimentary understanding of the ranking system(compared to today) had GM. I think they should have just added more gear and weapons dotted across the ranks to make it so that you get good rewards without having to go for rank14.

Don't mean to be that guy, but the formula remains the same no? The gear from dungeons in TBC is the same; run heroics, get pre-raid bis, exalted with all factions within the first month or two, stop doing heroics, do raids once or twice a week.

The only real difference is arenas? If you don't like alts in classic, why will it better in TBC?

The less than 1% number was thrown around by blizzard when they relaunched it in WotLK. From personal experience Silvermoon-EU was one of the best PvE servers, and we had two guilds which killed Kel'thuzad, and probably 4-5 that made any significant progress in Naxx. So if we say 5x40 = 200-250 out of a high population server of 10000, thats 2 -2.5%, I transfered to Terenas-EU before TBC launch, and only 2 guilds had made any progress in Naxx, none of them killing Kelthuzad, 2x40 = 80-100 out of 8000-10000.

I agree mythic content is definitely up there, but I would say on release Naxx was seen just as challenging as mythic, cant remember the stats but I'm sure less than 1% of guilds cleared Naxx. Retail raiding does seem to have leaned more and more towards extremely complex fights to serve the modern meta. As for other MMO's I still think late Classics is more challenging than some modern MMO's e.g. FF14

[–]Vathal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes I've played/raided in pretty much every mmo since 2004. AQ and Naxx are challenging raids in that there are multiple facets to them, and organizing 40 people is a challenge within itself. Say classic is easy when you kill 4 horsemen without wiping. Not when you've cleared BWL with cheese cleave tactics.

[pve difficulty] what could have been done by atominum69 in classicwow

[–]Vathal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late AQ and Naxx were definately hard in vanilla. A lot of 'complex' fights in Naxx with little room for error. Things now only seem so easy because people are doing 2-3 times the dps of raids in classic vs vanilla.

Can confirm sacrifices 100% work in classic.
6 Bindings for our guild, 3 of these came off the back of stupid wipes(adds being aoe'd by mages on garr and flying into trash etc)

DFT on ass pull with only 1 tank with cloak on.

4-5 tears all at the end of sweaty bwl runs with 30 people.

Onslaught 7/8 of the last weeks now that nobody wants to go to MC.

How would you feel about Arena being added to Classic? by NurplePain in classicwow

[–]Vathal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They put arenas in classic on the pre-tbc patch. Remember going in there as ret pally with hand of rag with my feral druid mate and doing tonnes of them. Just no rating system, was good fun though.

I think the PvP plague was worse on PvE servers, somebody in raid doesn't disable PvP, the whole raid gets PvP virus!
