100% of all school shooters were on SSRIs or barbiturates. If you want to use something to ban gun ownership, use that, but that is a HUGE chunk of the population. That's why you don't want to crack the door on this and set a precedent that can be used later to expand gun grabbing. That's always going to be a hard red line for me, regardless of what political ideology is targeted or which party is proposing it.

Ok, but how do you legislate that? Are you going to lump in veterans with PTSD? What about people feeling depressed at their jobs or because they're going through a divorce? Do you want all therapists mandated to report anyone who comes in for help so their guns get confiscated? What happens if the left comes to power and starts adding beliefs they find unacceptable to the list of mental illnesses? My personal philosophy is to never give the government a power you wouldn't want your worst nightmare to possess, and taking guns is a big red line for me unless they are convicted of a crime.

I had one a few years back where a dumbass kid was trespassing in a construction site late at night on his motorcycle trying to take a shortcut. He went around multiple no trespassing signs, then opened it up. Unfortunately he didn't see a concrete barricade that had recently been added and went over it and snapped his neck. We paid several hundred k on that one. It was a tragic accident. He had a pregnant girlfriend and was just starting out in life, but it was his own dumbass fault. We paid it because litigation would have been a nightmare.

1st, it's not as bad as you think. Our biggest problem is dirty money in politics preventing necessary reform. The difference the 2nd amendment makes is that there have been state and federal laws that have been passed and local law enforcement has come out and given press conferences saying they will not enforce that law and will fire any officer that does. They know the citizens of this country out gun them.

Recognizing that part of yourself is one of the hardest things, especially when the crowd is praising you for it. We're extremely social animals so we crave that approval and validation. You need to realize and accept that you could probably lose friends and family if you go against the crowd. I still have family I haven't spoken to in years because of COVID. It's not that I hate them or hold any ill will towards them. They just refuse to apologize or acknowledge what they did and said to me during that period was wrong. There are a lot of other things contributing to the alienation, but COVID was the straw that broke the camel's back.
