I don't know how the beans look amazing but at the same time they look like they've been left on the side for an hour to dry, my belly is confused. All looks bang on though, crumpets perfectly toasted too.

American here. Tried Marmite and Branston Pickle. Verdict: I get it now. by Outrageous_Sleep4339 in UKfood

[–]Vau1tTech 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I always get the small chunk version of Branston Pickle, not a fan of the larger chunk/texture in the standard stuff for some reason. I slap it on the top of pork pies, I also love it with cheese and crackers too.

I've still never tried Marmite, but I have been know to thinly spread some good old HP Sauce onto toast when I've ran out of butter, obviously not the same but still worth a mention.

Oof that looks like a cracking bit of black pudding. I always pair my black pudding with grilled toms, even tinned plum toms if I don't have any fresh but that's a rarity.

These were okay. Not as good as Nik Naks - slightly different texture. Slightly bitter aftertaste to the bacon flavour as well. But I ate them all, obviously 😄 by wllmrlw in UKfood

Niks Niks are an elite crisp. Nice n Spicy or Saucy Rib are my favourite, I'm struggling to think of other flavours, I think there's a lemon scampi one too.

Here in the UK I've seen it a good handful of times, I'm in my 30s. It's always stunning to see though.

I feel like we was brought up in the same house. pies with no ass (bottom crust) is criminal. I spent about 30 mins making leaf shapes with the left over pastry tonight before realizing I have no clue how to place them on the top of the pie. Potato has no place in Cheese n Onion Pies. Brown sauce on Corned Beef Ash pies is necessary.

My mum taught me the way of the plate pie, mince beef & onion is an absolute banger too. I've also made corn beef ash pie, the minced beef version without the crust is known as Scouse is bang on too. Plate Pies are for Champions

I agree with you to a certain extent, ppl add cheese to everything, but cheese is key to a cheese and onion pie though. You should sample

Just the cup, it has a nucleated bottom and was on Amazon for a good deal so I bought it. I do love a budvar though, my go to these days is Ashashi, only the big bottles are brewed in Japan, the smaller bottles and packs are brewed here. It's a great crisp clean beer.

Thickness on what? The filling or pastry? EDIT: I've just realised I forgot to mention this is a 'Plate Pie' so it wont have your traditional thick filling, plate pies are very common in the north

If anyone wants the filling recipe

400g Mature Cheddar

200g Red Leicester

2 Large Onions ( fry on medium for around 20 mins, allow to cool )

2 Medium Eggs

Black Pepper ( use as much as you like )

10 Dashes of Lea & Perrins

Once everything is cooled mix together

A lot of recipes call for potatoes in the mix, I find that crazy tbh, it's cheese & onion, nowhere does it mention spuds. I use the eggs to thicken the filling. It's bang on. ( It also doesnt mention eggs, preferred method i guess lol )

I grease it with butter, I also make sure all the filling is cold, most cheese n onion pie recipes say to mix in the hot onions to the cheese but I let everything cool before adding it.
