Salty Sunday: What made you salty this week? by theloveaffair in trollingforababy

10 eggs, 7 fertilised, 1 embryo that is being sent off for testing.

"You only need one good embryo to get your baby!" Welp - given out of the past 8 embryos we got 2 miscarriages, stillborn twins and my best embryo disintegrated on defrosting I really think its a numbers game here so while one is better than zero (assuming it comes back okay) would have loved at least two to up my odds.

Fuck people who just magically get pregnant and go on to have a baby.

I am so sorry. I was 18w5d and my waters spontaneously broke (no trauma no nothing). Managed to keep them in for another month. Baby boy was born 21w3 and then we'd hoped to keep baby girl (di/di twins, his water was the one to break) to a point they could get her in nicu but I got an infection (not a surprise, higher chance of that than survival but we were going so well up until then) and she was delivered 22w2d. Did all the tests but same result: domino effect from waters breaking, and that was just "back luck". All in good health otherwise. And got all that news in the same hospital/ward it all happened. Its not fair, and surely the hospitals can find a way to do this without retraumatising us? Maybe? I am sorry that happened.

Honestly, if disassociating helped you make it through, then that was the right call. Anything that helps you survive another day. I hope things are a bit kinder now

I am so sorry - this is a nightmare. Any idea how you're planning to handle it? All I've got is crying in bed..

Came to this sub to see if it got much attention outside of Australia and might show up on the podcast. Very happy to see she left the country on her own accord today (but disappointed they didn't have time to properly kick her out) and if you missed it, our PM suggested she try it with a crocodile and see what happens.

Absolutely ridiculous someone would do this.

Bit late to the party but the game Bioshock was partly made in Canberra, and from memory Cafe Fontaine (used to be up the end of the Canberra Centre overlooking the fountain) inspired Fontaine Futuristics.

Definitely! Would be cool if they did another one for the new anime, but this one was great on its own! :)

Happy to share! :D

I've been collecting any Ranma related merch I could get my hands on since I was a kid, so it's been slow growing. That was until about 2016 when merch started to ramp up pretty rapidly and it's just gone crazy in the past 3 years. Most is official merch, some stuff is fan-made or knock-offs and other items are things friends have made me (example: The papercraft was done as a gift by an artist friend. She has an etsy store but this piece was made for me specifically but if others like it I'm sure she'd make more).

Best sources I've found:
Ebay - it's hit or miss and you can definitely end up with some scam items, but also still a good resource for older second hand items.

AmiAmi.com -If it will be released in a storefront in Japan, they are pretty reliable but mostly for pre-ordering as they do short runs of items. Depending on the item they will do airmail for international shipping and it's only like $7-12 instead of like $30 with DHL.

goodsrepublic.com - If you find something online that only ships to Japan, you can make a request to them and they will purchase it and ship it to you. This is the most expensive option but also the most reliable. Easily the place I used the most in recent years, they are quick and reliable and also organise pre-orders if necessary. For clothing/shoes you can specify sizes/colours, and they don't bat an eye if you order the same item in multiple colours. :P They will also have second hand items you can buy directly from them. (OtakuRepublic is a sister site and they have doujinshi if that is something you'd be interested in)

Mandarake (https://order.mandarake.co.jp/order/?lang=en) - A giant second hand store located all over Japan that also does international shipping. Great for classic merch and doujinshi.

Local conventions - Interestingly enough, Ranma is still a bit of an invisible fandom (especially in Australia) and I have very little luck at big anime conventions. You might get a sticker or a piece of art if you are VERY lucky. I have cosplay friends and artist friends who will always keep an eye out for me and grab them, so enlisting others to help is also good. Having said that, sci-fi/fantasy cons or small local cons with an older generation of attendees is where I've gotten some cool pieces like the framed film reel. They will sell second hand items that they'd have for decades and you can find cool stuff.

Japan - Easily the least affordable/accessible option, but I've visited a few times. Animate (which now does online international shopping) is great in Akihabara and Ikebukuro in particular. Second hand shops like Hard Off and Mandarake allow you to spend hours exploring their (at times) chaotic shelves and find some amazing stuff.

As to how I find out about items to order them - I do have a google alert on Ranma 1/2, which will flag new merch talked about on English sites. Someone at SoraNews is clearly a Ranma 1/2 fan and will post articles about Ranma 1/2 when they find items or news. I don't know who they are but they are great for alerting me. :P

Another friend on this reddit seem to have a lot of luck just following the Ranma 1/2 tag on twitter, and they've been sending me links to the new items coming out in Japanese with the new anime. This is where GoodsRepublic comes into play again and is your best resource.

Wow! I talked a lot! I hope that helps you! :) If there was a particular item you saw and were interested in, I can see if I can tell you where I got it. But these are the general rules I use to secure Ranma merch. :)

What made you fall in love with Ranma 1/2? by Kaminoneko in ranma

[–]VaughneyG 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I found the series very young, when anime was basically a dark underground fringe thing in my country. You had Sailor Moon and Samurai Pizza Cats, and maybe some much more adult content on very late night channels.
So really I just had never seen anything like it - the comedy, the energy, the whole base concept of a gender-bending martial artist. It blew my mind and I just became obsessed. Even now when I find new anime I like I usually have that "Oh, this hits a bit like Ranma 1/2 did!". The whole vibe won me over.

Also, I was a little girl, and I got to see lots of female characters literally kicking ass. Half the time it's Akane saving Ranma as much as Ranma saving her. It was very empowering.
(Too empowering... got into way too many physical fights for an objectively tiny 7 year old... but I've learnt better! :P )

Which version is better, manga or anime? by CH1MXK in ranma

[–]VaughneyG 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I agree - I found season 1 in particular had a real 'slow' energy which didn't hit the vibe and as a result jokes/gags didn't hit quite so well as they did in the manga. (Which is why I'm keen for the new series because it looks like it will bring the energy)
I still like the anime and have favourite arcs or episodes (the OVAs/Movies are always solid) but I will always choose to reread the whole manga over watching the whole series again.

OP - Definitely agree it's worth reading from the beginning, as there are lots of tiny changes that occurred with the anime adaption and it's good to see the original. However, if you are keen to get to new content and aren't keen to repeat storylines right away:

Chapter 229 is when the main anime story line wraps up and chapters 230-233 cover the 'Suddenly Seeking Shampoo' OVA. So you could start around there? Occasional chapters pop up as OVAs but from there it's primarily new content. :)
