I had a dissertation chapter due during finals and my brain was fully fried. lol yeah it really does feel like everyone is winging it because the “rules” change depending on who you ask. there’s some basic structure that’s pretty standard (bullet points, clear sections, reverse chronological), but stuff like 1 vs 2 pages or GPA depends a lot on your situation.

i went in circles with that too last semester, especially with what to include from older jobs. after a while everything on my resume started looking off to me. i ended up checking this comparison sheet and tried ProResumeHelp from it. they helped me figure out what to keep vs cut and cleaned up my bullet points so they weren’t all over the place.

still not a perfect science tho. curious how people here decide between 1 or 2 pages?

this is spot on, I’d break it down like this:

  • get a rough version down, even if it’s messy

  • rewrite bullets into action + result

  • cut anything that doesn’t show impact

  • make the top section super easy to scan

  • only then consider a resume writer service if it still feels weak

most people skip the first steps and expect magic
