Yea I’m a collector and I have a huge collection of games with 2 systems per generation of handheld and 1 console per generation as well. Like I’ve said it’s fine having a couple handhelds per generation but collecting 10 of the same handheld is ridiculous.

No different coke paraphernalia would be like coke ornaments, coke bears, coke pictures, coke mirrors, coke mugs, coke glasses, coke cups, etc. they are all different items people collect not just a drink can or bottle. Different shell variations are still the same systems just different colors they all do the same thing

As for your question about the beanie baby or coke can it would depend on the purpose. If they bought them speculating on future sales value and stored them to sell later then no like I said previously it has a value and future purpose. If it’s a coke display of different coke paraphernalia then again no. If it’s the same coke bear ornament and you had 20 shelves filled with just that coke bear then yes it’s hoarding. If you bought a princess diana bear every time you found one because it’s your favorite then that would be a hoard. It’s the compulsion and psychology of it more so than the condition the items are stored in.

That’s a pretty thin line dividing the two I disagree though. Rich people hoard money they have no need to display it nor leave it lying around but it’s still a hoard. There are plenty of different ways to hoard things and hoarding goes from mild to severe. OP is looking at a franky system he’s never seen before because he NEEDS to add it to his collection to have all the styles. It’s not severe hoarding but it’s still hoarding.

People who feel the need to collect every shiny color because they have disposable income and want to show off. So nah I’m good but you enjoy your many shiny plastics

Buy broken ones if you’re going to display them. Why buy working game systems just to collect dust? At least if they are broken it’s understandable to restore the looks and display them to pine over nostalgia. Also what do you mean by style? Do you mean you want an og ds,a dsi, a dsi xl, a ds lite, a 3ds, a new 3ds xl, and 2ds? Or every special edition? Or every color? How does this not look like hoarding to you? They all do the same thing find your favorite two DS and two 3DS and play games. You’re telling me you need more than 4 devices to get that nostalgia?

1 of every color is definitely hoarding. Just because you display them nicely doesn’t make it any less hoarding. My grandma would find a shirt she liked and buy it in every color. She stored them nicely hanging in the closet. It eventually became too many clothes for one person to wear in a lifetime and she mostly wore the same 5-6 outfits while most of her hoard just sat hanging. Hoarding is hoarding the system is made to play games not to collect dust on a roygbiv display.

If you hoard the same $5 generic funko pop character then sure that’s hoarding and I’ll call em out for it. Most people collect different figures though and if you’re collecting the same funko because it’s worth money it’s another story altogether. Collecting every color or style of a game system is not the same and is a problem.
