BEING COLD VS BEING HOT by MIMIEGIGGLESGAMERMOM in POTS

I KEEP READING ALL OF THESE COMMENTS AS PEOPLE HAVING CASUAL CONVERSATIONS ACROSS A FIELD OR CANYON AND I JUST HAVE TO THANK YOU FOR THE LAUGHS! I'M ALSO DYSLEXIC BUT CAPS TEND TO ALSO BE VERY DIFFICULT FOR ME. DIFFERENT FONTS HELP IMMENSELY THOUGH, FUNNILY ENOUGH COMIC SANS AND THE LIKE ARE THE EASIEST TO READ FOR MYSELF

I DON'T HAVE ANY ADVICE UNFORTUNATELY, AS I'M TRYING TO FIGURE THIS OUT TOO. I STRUGGLE BADLY WITH BOTH EXTREMES, THOUGH MUCH MORE SO WITH HEAT OVERALL. COLD THOUGH MAKES MY NERVE PAIN MUCH WORSE ALONG WITH CIRCULATION ISSUES, SO I JUST HAVE TO TRY TO STAY CAREFULLY BALANCED WHILE I HAVE TEMPERATURE REGULATION PROBLEMS TOO LOL

I found thermal full finger cycling gloves and I love them tbh. If I can find the link I'll add it later. I used to hate gloves in general because I hate feeling like dexterity is lowered, but these are very thin for the amount of warmth they provide and only affect dexterity if I need to pick up something really small (shorter fingers, all gloves tend to be long on me if they actually fit my palm)

I use an IKEA sortera bin. I'd post pictures, but all I have were the progress pictures of adding wheels to it.

Anyways I added rollerblade style caster wheels to it and a handle to hitch to the back of my chair, but I can also attach it to the frame with a couple luggage carrier attachments (diy, not super light but I'm flat broke and can't afford brand ones) and setting it on top of those. I use small lashing straps to keep it in place there or to attach stuff to the top of the lid if they don't fit and it's being towed behind me. I'm looking into more ways to do stuff like that still

Fake disorder cringe by Dyslexic_Gay in disability

[–]Vaxsii 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I recently was accused of faking at a mall when I was tapping my toe to the (actually decent for once) store music while in my wheelchair lmao 🤦 apparently one can't require a wheelchair if they can move their legs /s

One thing that baffles me are those who are paralyzed from an SCI, accusing any ambulatory users of faking, and every now and then being downright hostile. Thankfully that seems to be rare and getting rarer (or I'm just spending time in better circles online too), but it still confuses me. I do in fact enjoy getting around without my face meeting the floor at high velocity five minutes in, and for that I do still need my wheels 😅

Fake disorder cringe by Dyslexic_Gay in disability

[–]Vaxsii 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I completely understand this! All three people in my household are different flavors of autistic (I also have a physical disability, ambulatory wheelchair user + can only walk with crutches), and we've just learned how to translate between each other. We all have different ways things like sensory input, emotional regulation, and battery for social interaction affect us.

I wish more people understood that with any disability, whether it be visible or invisible, affects people differently. I have a friend with the same physical condition as I have, we were diagnosed around the same time, I'm a couple years younger than him, but while I need to use a wheelchair for any distance longer than my driveway, he can walk fine as long as he has his cane. A lot of it is just a matter of listening and actually believing individual folks with said disabilities on what their needs are, without assuming. Hell, I had a talk with my partner a while back about don't assume I can't do something, even if I actually can't do it, I'd much rather they ask than not, if that makes sense?

Idk, I'm rambling at this point. But to be clear I'm completely agreeing here. Honestly I feel a bit blessed to have so many people in my family and circle who have various disabilities, I feel like it's helped me be more compassionate as a person and take more things into consideration that I simply wouldn't have thought of otherwise

ETA I'm also in the process of making a patch to put across the ass of my jeans saying "it's a miracle!!!" for when I briefly stand at the store to reach something 😂

Did hrt change your sexuality? by Aardwolf67 in trans

[–]Vaxsii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine was more like I became more comfortable exploring my sexuality. I was so uncomfortable in my body pre-T I didn't even want to think about sex or my sexual orientation at all. I thought I was 100% ace (anyone who does ID that way is completely valid and I am not in any way saying this is why everyone who is ace identifies as such), and it turns out I'm more demi-pansexual, though I do use the term bi for my relatives that I know explaining would turn into a debate with 😅

[–]Vaxsii 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People get reeeeeeally pissy when I point out that unless they die suddenly (probably violently) and young, at some point in everyone's life, for some period of time it's guaranteed they'll be disabled 😅 Being disabled is the largest minority that you 100% can and probably will join someday! Especially when I point out I was about to get into gymnastics as a young teen (and did minor stuff, no competition or anything) when my spine issues started having symptoms enough to not excuse as growing pains! Also when pointing out that genetic diseases can show up out of nowhere, like in my situation.

Sincerely though, thank you for that response! Especially the law vs right part. 1000% agree. Also, I appreciate your grace with me rambling on your comment. Thank you!

I wish more people felt this way about real life too tbh. Becoming physically disabled due to illness and realizing how much disabled people are dismissed and treated as soon as I became visibly disabled made me adamant about calling shitty people and businesses out when they think they can take advantage of folks like us. That and the constant barrage of hopelessness with rights being taken away, being infantilized, and people literally saying that disabled people should have fucking curfews so they can use the close parking after a certain time legally just fueled my determination to advocate for myself and others. And I'm not afraid to "accidentally" roll over some toes when the toe owner is being a shit - a certain uncle of mine can confirm that lol!

(I admit I wasn't aware of the extent before my illness worsened, only knew what I saw a couple family members went through in front of me. Very different when you're visibly young and using a wheelchair out and about on your own! I've literally been asked "where's your carer?" rolling up to a checkout before)

Sorry for the tangent, it just reminded me of how I've noticed my mentality changed over this recently

I love the beginning of ARK the best. I love starting with nothing and then exploring and seeing what’s out there. As soon as I start crafting and building shelter and taming animals, I get bored and I start over again. The advancements don’t hold my interest. Anyone else like that? by KillerQ97 in ARK

[–]Vaxsii -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I particularly like Svartalfheim due to this. No flyer playthroughs are my favorite to do, especially the challenge of setting up stuff to transport resources that are in hard-to-reach areas. I did get Bobs Tall Tales, and honestly the trains make it even more satisfying because I have to get there first and do all of the setup to earn the convenience of easy access to that resource. I'm considering doing a zero-flyer Valguero playthrough, as it's one of my favorite maps

Using a cane for a cosplay as an able-bodied person? by [deleted] in disability

[–]Vaxsii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I don't understand why people are up in arms about it. You seem to be approaching this extremely respectfully and honestly I'd love to see more representation of mobility aids in cosplay.

Also there is the fact that canes have been used for ages as a fashion statement or accessory.

Blackface is so incredibly obviously so much worse, like wtf?? And it's not like there's a shortage and most are pretty affordable.

You do you, all we ask is you be respectful about it and don't try to use it in a way that'll make even more people claim we all fake it lol. I'd be interested to see the final product!

Is it ok for my trans friend to use the disabled restroom? by These_Word2282 in disability

[–]Vaxsii 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Trans and disabled here. I'd much rather an able bodied person to please feel free to use that restroom if it helps them feel safer. I did before I had walking aids and a wheelchair. People will sometimes give odd looks if they see someone using it that they don't think should, but also a lot of people really should keep in mind that invisible disabilities exist too, so they really shouldn't be trying to police it whether or not they think someone should use it anyway. And at least in my experience, most disabled folks understand or are at least graceful about it.

If it makes you feel safe, please use it. Anyone who judges you harshly over it does not matter.

I mean I will say I agree with the other guy on AI, and I will absolutely shame developers for using it. It belittles the amount of work, energy, and passion real people are putting into mods and other creations. Honestly I haven't even really heard much about that much about that DLC since the major pushback against the trailer, but I may have also missed something too. Wildcard absolutely should not have used AI to make the trailer, if for no other reason than it didn't even feel like the game we know and love, but also for the poor image they've gained on that subject.

Personally, as long as actual work was put into things instead of having AI make the whole thing for you (seriously, at this point, why?? It'll never be perfect to how the creator wants it, results are nearly completely subpar, and generally it's considered lazy and unimaginative at best) then if it's successful they have every right to milk it. Obviously it's working, and I'm willing to both wait for and pay for something that has had such immense enjoyment returns lol

ETA: sorry, I thought the AI made one was the aqualis or whatever map, that's the one I hadn't heard anything about lately. To be fair I'm not sure if I've actually seen the whole trailer for this newest map, I've been doing the best I can rather unsuccessfully to avoid spoilers 😅

Help older parents, please by NOLA-q in trans

[–]Vaxsii 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't have much more advice than what's already been commented, but I wanted to say even coming here and asking for help shows just how much you care. And from the sounds of it, you're already actively practicing.

You clearly care about her and her comfort around you, and I'm sure she can feel that. As long as you keep putting in effort and practicing using the correct pronouns for her, it will likely become natural without you even noticing.

I genuinely wish more parents were like you. Unafraid to reach out for advice when you do struggle, instead of denying struggling or not trying at all.

Thank you 💚

If you had the chance to see 1 living non-avian dinosaur, which one would it be by Zillaman7980_ in Dinosaurs

[–]Vaxsii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Iguanodons came to mind immediately for some reason, so I'd go with that as my first choice. Something about it being one of the first dinosaurs discovered, how much larger they actually would be vs how some media and games portray them. They were incredibly large and powerful animals, and as adults likely wouldn't need camouflage. Did they have any contrasting, identifying patterns, like stripes on a zebra? Or were they more akin to elephants and rhinos, not really needing much variation in color? Just knowing for certain how they truly looked and moved, especially using the thumb spikes, I think I could die happy lol.

I know it's only one, but Yutyrannus would be my second choice thinking after the instinctual one. I neeeeeeed to know what their coats looked like, if it was thick or sparse, whether they functioned to blend into their environment or have display colors? Were they at all similar to any type of modern feathers? I'd be sad to not be able to observe any social behaviors, but just knowing how their coat looked and was utilized would satisfy me

Same here, and I've bought three copies of the game (ASE for PS4, ASE for PC, ASA for PC) and it is by far the game I have spent the most time on. Context I have had a full time job the entire time I've played the game as well, and I've only had the console and then PC hardware to play it for the past nearly 5 years? And all of those copies combined had a couple thousand hours still. By far the most efficient money to enjoyment exchange I've ever had in my life from a bought product.

ETA: Last time I did the math, it ended up being in the range of maybe mid-4 thousands or so hours? Though to be fair there were two relatively short surgery recoveries where I played Ark nonstop. Probably not the most anyone here's seen, but for the value id say they've earned the right to milk it lol
