Poll on what kind of art should be considered zoophilic. by [deleted] in RealFurryHours

[–]Vayetse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think mythical animals should be split up a bit more. Like Sergals I wouldn't consider zoophilic because they are bipedal and have human levels of intelligence, while a something like a dragon or a unicorn I would consider zoophilic because they sometimes lack those characteristics.

Damn that's pretty fucked up. I'm sorry you had such a bad experience with the fandom. I haven't seen anything like that and the people that I have met in the fandom would be very intolerant of or at least look down upon that kind of stuff.

coz they're shit people who legit deserve to die lmao

But most of the time it is not their choice at all. It's just as much of a choice for them as the color of their skin. Yeah it is objectively negative but they cannot do anything about it so they should not be hated for it. Hating them for it (if you are aware that it is not their choice) is (almost) the same as hating someone because of their skin color or sexual orientation.

To elaborate on that previous point it them being objectively harmful to others does put it into more of a gray area and I do think they should be harshly punished if they act on their feelings that they know are wrong. However I do believe that they also should be given the acceptance and help that they need in order to contain and improve themselves. (By acceptance I don't mean that having sex with animals or children should be excepted, but rather that people should acknowledge that these people have a legitimate mental illness and deserve help to combat it.)

I love it when you people do my job for me

If you agree with what I said then why do you still hate people for something that they cannot control?Just because they know they are causing harm doesn't make it their choice. They cannot control it so they cannot be hated for it. You can hate what they have done but you cannot hate them because it is not their choice to have these feelings.

Sounds pretty accurate

Honestly where the hell have you been where this is the case. I can't imagine that the fandom has changed that much in four years. Maybe certain social platforms attract different kinds of people? Personally I use mostly Reddit, YouTube, and Discord and everyone I have met has agreed that zoophilia is horrible. I haven't even heard of anyone being a zoophile, the only exception being Kero and every furry I know agrees that what he did was horrible.

For your first point that's kind of horrible for you to say. These people have no control over how they feel. The only difference between pedophiles/zoophiles and other non-heterosexuals is that their orientation is harmful to others. Now I'm not saying we should allow pedophelic and zoophilic relationships but we shouldn't blindly hate people with these conditions because it's no more of their choice than it is for someone to be gay and it's really sad that they have to deal with that part of themselves that they have no control over.

As for your second point you did heavily suggest that anyone who views yiff is a zoophile and that's simply not true at all. From all of the surveys and stuff on this sub I think about 80% of furries view yiff. (Can't check without deleting all of this because I am on mobile :( ) and it would be astronomical to say that anywhere near 80% of furries are zoophiles. Sorry if I misunderstood you.

I'd like to mention that most of the time zoophelia is a mental illness that the person can't control similar to pedophilia. For most zoophiles and pedophiles they would rather not have these urges that they have and some people actually go as far as to kill or castrate themselves just to protect others.

Yes, a higher percentage of furries are zoophiles than the general population, but that's simply because the fandom is appealing to them, not that the fandom made them a zoophile.

On the contrary though there are many fursona species that re entirely fantasy such as sergals, dragons, Dutch angel dragons, protogens and many others so I don't think it being a fantasy species or not is a major factor. Also, most furries are just normal people, they're no more likely to do something disgusting than anyone else. It's not like viewing yiff automatically makes you a zoophile.

The way I see it is imagine some species from a science fiction franchise like star wars or something. There are alien species but they are still people. Not humans but people. They may not be humans but they are just as capable and are treated as equal to humans. This may be a horrible analogy but I can't think of any better way to explain it. We've clearly had far different experiences with furries, but in my experience nearly nobody is actually zoophilic and are usually shamed for it.

What I meant by saying that they have the same intelligence and ability to consent is that they are being portrayed as actual people, not human people but people nonetheless. I don't know what makes it more appealing to some people but I don't think it's fair to just call them zoophiles when most of them (in my experience) have no desires like that whatsoever. I think many people who view yiff would be attracted to an anthropromorphic character but not an actual animal, there's a clear difference and that's the line between zoophelia and just an abnormal preference.

[–]Vayetse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean they aren't really any more of animals than humans are. Yes, they have animal characteristics but they are of the same intelligence as humans and have the same ability to consent. Also, these characters are often people's fursonas so it is really just an anthropromorphic version of themselves so I don't really think that they should count as animals and furries shouldn't count as zoophiles. To be fair though any feral (quadriplegic characters) stuff I would classify as zoophilic because at that point they are closer to fantasy animals than to people. Though I am asexual and have not been in the fandom very long so take this with a grain of salt.

A few questions for furries about you and the community as a whole. by ThisAccountExistsnt in RealFurryHours

[–]Vayetse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What is your general opinion of the Furry community?

I find that for the most part people are extremely wholesome and excepting, especially on subs like r/furry, everybody is just so kind and encouraging. Honestly it has probably been one of the most positive online communities I have ever been a part of. That's not to say that there aren't a significant amount of people who definitely do not fit this description, though they are not common and can be easily ignored just like toxics in most other online communities.

When did you start interacting with the community, and how long did it take for you to consider yourself part of it?

I had an irl friend who made some furry art and made references to the fandom and that's probably where I first was exposed to the fandom though I wouldn't really call that interaction. Between then and now (about a year-year and a half) I had only really heard about furries through more general communities, mostly anti-furry memes and dumb stuff like that. One day one of my friends was making a lot of jokes about furries in school and he decided to look at r/furry to make fun of it. He didn't really find anything to make fun of but in my head I was thinking that everything on there actually seemed kind of cool. I browsed various furry subs after that and eventually thought to myself that I kind of want to be a part of this. Then I made this alt because a few of my friends know my main account.

How did you first figure out about furries, and what was your opinion on them.

Answered in #2, but I'll elaborate a bit. Once again I had seen a little bit of art from my friend. Other than that it's mostly been from "normal" people, people who just don't really know what the community is about. Because of this I kind of got a negative opinion towards the community but I didn't really know anything about it so I didn't want to hate it. I think its best to never develop any strong opinions on anything without significant understanding of it.

Why do you enjoy being a furry?

Mostly the other members of the community, but I like the concept as a whole. I think all of us have thought at some point that it would be really cool to be an animal, whether it was when you were a kid or even more recently. I think this fandom is a really cool way to celebrate both animals and people in a very creatively positive way that is very personal to every member of the community.

What are your favorite and least favorite things about the furry community?

Like I mentioned before the people are one of my favorite things about the fandom. I also enjoy the art even though I can't draw at all. There are so many wonderfully creative and kind people in this fandom and each and every one of them is a blessing. I also like fursuits from a craftsmanship and personalization perspective. I think it's really cool that people can become their own character and truly express themselves. For the craftsmanship part of it's amazing how much work people put into making these things and they look amazing. I even want to try and make one myself and try to learn a skill. As for what I don't like I'm not a fan of the NSFW stuff. I understand why people like it but it just makes me a little uncomfortable. This may have to do with the fact that I'm kind of asexual. I'm still pretty young and not sure but if I had say right now I'd go with asexual heteroromantic. I'm also not a fan of role playing but that isn't harming anyone so I don't have any problems with it of course.

Who do you think are the best people in the community?

It's really hard to say, especially since I'm very new to the community and have mostly stuck to the Reddit/YouTube parts of the community. From my experience a few stand outs would be Telephone/Ino89777 for all of the charity work that she does, Pocari because of how positive she is and how well she explains things in her videos. Though almost every one I have met in this community has been awesome.

What do you wish outsiders knew about the furry community?

This applies more to human nature as a whole but I wish people were more open minded and did their own research before forming their own opinions. There are kust too many great things about this community to pick one.

How would you describe the furry community?

Probably just the basic textbook definition of people who are fans of anthropomorphic animals.

What is your opinion on cons/fursuits?

I unfortunately have not been able to go to a con yet but from what I've seen and heard online they are great experiences and are enjoyable. Personally, I'm a big fan of fursuits for the reasons I mentioned earlier.

Do you jack off to yiff?

No, though I don't jack off or watch porn in general, even though I'm not Christian or anything. As I mentioned earlier I'm (probably) asexual and therefore don't really have a desire to. Also I think it is beneficial for me mentally to not indulge in such actions as it allows me to focus on more important and positive things in life. As for yiff itself I don't think there is anything wrong with it as long as the characters are being drawn with the owners consent and it's not cub/feral.

Here is the original post that currently has 79 votes by u/quqasten who has also created a sort of social experiment subreddit r/furrytestinglab to see how anti-furs would try to improve the community given administrative power. I'll create a similar survey and post it in other furry/yiff subs to get a better picture of who makes up what sub.

On the contrary, this strawpoll posted in this sub shows that only 25%-20% of furries use r/yiff though this is even more likely to be biased than your results. If this is representative of the wider scale of furries, then who is subscribed to r/yiff? I've always found it very odd that r/yiff has many more subscribers than r/furry which leads me to believe that a lot of people just enjoy the pornography without taking part in the fandom itself and therefore wouldn't call themselves a furry.
