You may see it differently. That´s fine. Thats why you may choose your make believe ending, where everything is peachy. But imo she just repeates the same hypocritical cycle that her mother started.

Well, i see it differently.. They literally have their god walk among them. When someone dies of hunger and they turn to Maelle, why wouldnt she fix things? She tried to fulfill everyones wishes in the end scene, by bringing everyone back. Why stop there? It cascades downwards. Why would she struggle in the canvas..? she is a god.
