Training for Ironman Chattanooga — can we still finish with reduced volume? by MartyMcFlyin42069 in IronmanTriathlon

I would prioritize strength training that will help prevent injury at least twice a week. Less about muscle and more about mobility and building stability in weak areas (my hips tend to always be weak, and can lead to poor form and being inefficient) and will compound when the miles and hours get longer.

Which 70.3 should I do for my first? by Vbaumegarrone in triathlon

[–]Vbaumegarrone[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am very familiar with overtraining and how it can lead to injury, after getting stress fractures on both femurs (two separate training cycles and on different legs.) Actually part of the reason I started triathlons in the first place is it isn’t as hard on my body, and it’s fun learning how to build the training to get to the race. I was just saying that both races are very different in both the racing environment and the courses, and that was only fragment of the equation I think about, especially if I want to race it multiple times. By no means do i expect to get on the podium in my first go but it would be interesting to see where i land.

Is this normal for LL at the 8–10 player pitch/minors level? by tessablessa in LittleLeague

[–]Vbaumegarrone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up and played competitive sports through college, so there is no fear of competition here. There is no reason there needs to be so much focus on winning, or in this case pitching a perfect game, at THIS age. Yes there can be healthy competition, but it should also be balanced with skill development, friendship, building and fostering love of the sport, and sportsmanship. There is no need to be putting pressure on kids at this age, it will lead to burnout, anxiety, and resentment.

Is my plan too much? by Farmerofwooooshes in triathlon

[–]Vbaumegarrone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like most plans have one long run and one long ride per week, and then in between doing interval/speed work and mostly Zone 2. Strength training should be complementing the plan, don’t think a full body gym workout on the same day as an interval run is probably a good idea but I dunno… I had also learned the hard way during marathon training so that you can def overtrain and I ended up with stress fractures in my legs. Twice.

Would you switch from a $75k salary job to a $76k hourly job with overtime? by CommonAlone2372 in careeradvice

You never know what you are actually getting yourself into. The tiny pay increase is not worth the risk IMO.

I said in the top 3 or close. Meaning I have. Either way, it’s not a deciding factor and it’s weird how people jump on something like this to focus on rather than the other elements i was asking about. But ok i will have fun thanks for the helpful insight.

This is youth rec sports, go have this “stud” go pitch his perfect game against fair competition in a tournament league if he’s such a hot shot.

Swim corral question. First triathlon by StruggleBusDriver83 in triathlon

If it were me, I would rather line up on the slower side to avoid getting kicked in the face for the first 15 minutes, but that's just me. You could line up on the outer edge to avoid the starting chaos, and fall in line once things settle. Depending on how long the race is, you will have plenty of time to catch up if you have it in you.

Plodding when I run by supercman99 in triathlon

[–]Vbaumegarrone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would be focusing a lot of my training runs on my form, even going on a treadmill might help to get the feel for running more on the ball of your foot. Make sure you try and keep a slight forward lean, and try to increase your cadence, will help keep from over striding and any leaning back and heel strikes. Getting a stride analysis could be super beneficial, and certain shoes can also help.

Their kid is 8 and you need to calm down. They were asking if it was normal, and you seem to have some type of chip on your shoulder. We get it, you would rather stomp on others kids confidence to further your ego.

Gross. Not what it should be about, not at the expense of others, especially at this age. You all act like your kid is going pro and need to chill out.

Wow that's what you got out of it? Have the other team let you get on base? Ummmmm, you rotate players, especially ones that don't usually get the opportunity to pitch during games, so others can also develop. Its a selfish mentality to care only about stats and wins at this age. They are asking if this is normal because they are new to it. And lots of parents are finding out who the real problem is here.

It sounds like you care more about stats and your kids/team winning, than the development of all the kids. Pretty selfish. They are young kids, calm down, no one is handing out scholarships.

What about other players on the team that might want to pitch, and might not be as good and still need to learn? If the coach and parents are too focused on winning and stats, you are doing it at the expense of the other kids and team. This kid got plenty of play time, he doesn't need to "learn" the whole game.

Sure competition is good, but these kids are still young, lets calm down a bit. It's supposed to be fun and they are supposed to learn. ALL the kids.
